  1. Straight after Man United get Maidstone I think

Even got a belt of the Blaydon Races. What next 'United' or something crazy like that.
  3. Don't mind and am not self-conscious about bludgeoning a win. How many times do others do it and how many times has it been done to us? Its not a one-off by any stretch, were right off the boil, slopping lazy passing even at the end there with the game won where we were lethal before. Forgetable game. Good noise and song sheet from the away fans tonight.

Was just thinking myself that it must have been a case of the best form of defence is attack, not based on anything certain. I do recall a spate of home games where the opposition teams goals to chances ratio was high compared to ours. Like we hammer on the door for 20minutes they go and score. Made it interesting, not just in hindsight, if it was in the first 20 you felt every chance we'd turn it around.

Stretch but the worst McMenemy too. At least for our clubs. Chris was harmless as part of KK's team. Lawrie obviously not for them.
  6. That's great. Thanks. Always remember something but was a kid at the time and it just seems like I must have got something wrong when you think about it logically even just a few years later. Remember Gateshead used to have the old billboard outside the ground and I just liked the idea of seeing "Tuesday: Maidstone versus Tranmere"
  7. Wasn't there a story in the early 90s where Maidstone nearly did play at SJP or the International Stadium in a ground share or something, to do with ownership? Sounds like a fever dream but remember liking the idea of having local league football. They were sharing with Dartford at the time.
  8. Are the replays now to be on the weekend? Since we're playing the initial ties on midweek nights now? May as well completely arse up something that worked great for 100years.
  9. Its a bit reminiscent of Dalglish leaving. Similar time of the year, mid title race, citing burnout etc. Sure would be a shame if they again appointed an incompetent arsehole that immediately ended their glory days and started a run of 30years without winning the league.

If they'd have won, they'd feel a lot different about the club ownership and manager. At best it would be 'we shouldn't have gave them that end' but they'd be marvelling in everything else including fleecing us of all the money they charged for their bar area - was literally a thread on RTG entitled 'fleecing the Mags' where many were enjoying that. If you didn't know better you'd think that events concerning NUFC were a major factor in decision making and outlook on things there.

That's going to be the ffp world I fear unless something is done. Seems every move football makes goes away from romance.

I've always thought of that club as the poor relations so that's fitting.
  13. After 13years of Ashley it feels like a right slap in the face. What he did was just fine. The opposite forbidden. Hard not to take it personally going from one extreme to the other and getting shafted both times.
  14. FMV would mean no club getting a steal and no club haggled into paying over the odds. Doesn't factor in bidding wars or how desperate a club is to sell or sign. Its the same with sponsorship that's mostly based on what could happen not on an exact repeat of the previous sponsors showcase. Even attempting to regulate all that is anything but fair.
  15. Every time I see keepers Chris Woods and John Lukic I cant fathom how they had the top-flight careers they did.

Feel the restrictions placed on us might be a sickener for the likes of him, knowing we can't kick on while they're here having probably previously expected us to grow much quicker. I dunno, I liked football better when there was romance to it.

Attendance thread reckons there was only 25,000 there. In that alone is an over-reaction to a defeat, a club that so insecure they lie about attendance figures, a fanbase that laps them up when it suits 'big club deserve better' and presurises the club to achieve unrealistic goals and gives them an expectancy that they should be doing better than clubs that either actually get better gates or certainly make more money from their gates. All because of the mentality of their public.

Did they reconstitute the seats to spell out their colloquial pronunciation from ours to "Hawayah"? Was just enough miserable fans sitting on their hands behind the goal moaning to obscure that.

Just seen the goal, and the behind the goal "shall we fill your end for you?"

Is he done with Yemen too? Now that its been more widely reported on and will transpire to those he's been a correspondent for that the Arabs weren't exactly attacking just for the fun of it innocent orphans like he made out for years. This lawsuit must be the faux outrage equivalent of clutching onto "6 in a row" or "9-1"

Probably end up being signed by ceiling boy. Which would be infinitely more of a piss take than us signing players from the Saudi league. To not only deliberately hobble any would be competitors, ring fencing themselves, but to also take players from the clubs they're holding down with new legislation. What a shit winter.
  22. Everybody since Arsenal in 91 spent fortunes to win the league and that Arsenal team was probably still in the top five most expensively assembled (just the additions of Seaman, Linighan and Limpar that season were £3.5m and more than what half the clubs in the league paid for their entire squads. Man United and Ferguson were probably the original Man City/Chelsea when they spent fortunes on Pallister, Ince, Phelan, Wallace and Webb - £8m in 1989 alone having spent a lot prior (Hughes, Bruce, Leighton, McClair). Spent fortunes to create the scenario of being able to bring people through, like Man City now.
  23. Right before the rules are changes is my guess.
