He was not good again, but he still isn’t fit. I was more disappointed in Woltemade when he came on, passing the buck for the peno is a worrying sign, and he was so bad in the air. Poor guy looks shot to bits.
-
Murphy was a shout pre match, but I assume that was tongue in cheek. He was dire.

Lads look absolutely spent and devoid of confidence. I think this season is a write off now, I’d still give Howe the start of next season though. It’s hard to take when you see Brentford bully us into submission, quite a few of them would walk into our current squad if we’re honest. Igor Thiago was signed for beans and showed us everything we’re lacking, amongst others.
-
Hopefully they make the usual mistake and give Carrick the job full time.
-
He was born in France mate.

What do you mean supposedly? The shit this guy is getting is way over the top, it was a major injury and he’s clearly still short of match sharpness, as Eddie has alluded to today and many other times.

Still looks short of match fitness to me.

Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle United [LCSF 2nd Leg] (04/02/26)

With the players we had out we never had a chance, but at least we didn’t cave in, I don’t buy city taking their foot off the gas, they are a team of relentless robots who enjoy humiliating teams by the highest scores possible. Haaland was desperate to score against us. im taking the positive that we created chances and very very good ones. It’s not all bad, even though the rest of this season could be tough going. -
Realistic or not it’s pretty refreshing to have someone talk about the club positively, amid the never ending sea of misery elsewhere.
-
I think it’s only fair to point out that cartel clubs like Man U are allowed to sign limitless amounts of dud players with no financial consequences, where as one mistake for us is seismic.
-
It was never a 4-1. Liverpool weren’t even that good. Proud of the boys, massively ran out of gas, but we didn’t get a shred of luck the whole night. Let’s remember they’re another team with a limitless budget for transfers and wages and yet we’re worrying them on the regular.

The casual cruelty of this comment like. He hasn’t been on our books for years.

Newcastle United 0-2 Aston Villa (25/01/26) | post-match from pg. 52

Strikers do need service, and the crossing/final ball was abysmal today. Still, Woltemade is beginning to concern me a bit, his movement in the box is very passive, he never looks like he’s killing himself to get there first. Although I remember Isak being frustratingly languid when he first arrived too. We might have to wait till next season to see what we have with him…luckily, we’re all very patient around here. Villa were annoyingly good as well, didn’t look in the least fatigued and Emery has all of them playing out of their skins again. -
Nah that’s too harsh. He was brilliant for Brentford. Colbeck was dogshit everywhere he played.
-
Yeah it’s not great he needed to say this. The lad’s confidence is on the floor now. He’ll never be a world beater but he needs a bit of encouragement. It would be great if the fans could hold their moans and groans till after the game.

Newcastle United 0-2 Manchester City [LCSF 1st Leg] (13/01/25)

Not worth getting irritated about Semenyo playing. Any of city’s other 7 substitute attackers would have been there to roll that ball in. Unmissable. -

It was a really good effort. On another day we score a couple. Wissa still looks like a guy who’s been out for 6 months but the header was very unlucky. Sometimes it’s worth taking a moment to remember we’re competing against a team with an unlimited transfer budget and an unlimited wage bill due to years and years of systemic cheating. We’ve come so far. -
But regardless, you can’t let his contract run down surely?
-
This makes sense on every level. Hopefully he gets back to his best with time and wait for it, patience. But if not, we’re protecting an investment and can recoup a fee down the line when and if we secure the three more top class centre backs we’re going to need to sign over the coming windows.
-
He still looks quite a way off sharpness wise.
-
Assuming he’s a decent human being and is at least somewhat appreciative of what Howe has done for him, we need to absolutely rinse City and banish PSR concerns for another few windows.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (playing for Leeds United)
Crimson Cardigan replied to Strawberry's topic in Football
DCL was an absolute menace last night, he caused all sorts of problems. He’s been very good for Leeds and is up there with the signings of the season given he was for free. Anyway, it’s just another note against the irritating recency bias and hyperbole with which footballers in general are discussed, absolute mint or absolutely shite with nothing in between and zero wider context applied. -

And that is why, you do not sell Harvey Fucking Barnes. -
Is it really basics though? I think holding the ball under intense pressure from multiple players is an elite skill. It’s worth remembering that the greats of yesteryear never faced a coordinated press that even the weakest
