Steve McClaren

He has no idea how to change the game, nice guy but not the right bloke for the job.

Two defensive midfielders agai and getting dominated in the middle of the park again - cruel winner but let's be honest only one team deserved to win that match. Sick and tried of seeing this joke of a manager making the same mistakes week after week.

No idea what was up with Thauvin not coming on in the 65th minute when he was ready to go. Or why we only made 1 sub today. Dunno what it will take to get him to stop playing this line up.

Think he wasn't brought on then because Ayoze had just had that decent turn and shot as he was about to be taken off

If that's the case then it makes it even worse.

Well, he started with mitro and Perez....

And fair enough it didn't work, whether that was because of us being too deep or whatever. But in that case it begs the question why he didn't change it?

Don't get how De Jong can do enough to start and then keep his place and then go to being not necessary off the bench when we're evidently struggling. Weird how Thauvin was prepped to come on and then didn't for an age after.

Can't really moan at McClren too much today, bar starting Colback as norm but you just accept that now.

Felt sorry for De Jong but had to be Perez if it was one over the other. Saying that, Perez was rather ineffective today bar the fact he worked hard.

Thought it was hard to make subs today, weren't really playing badly bar first 20 mins where Everton were class. Perez for Thauvin was pretty much all McClaren could have really done imo.

Agreed with you last time but not this time. There is certainly plenty of things to moan about McClaren and his insistance of continuously operating with two defensive midfielders. He does it every game and just about every game we are outplayed in the centre of the pitch and as such cannot control the game; thus inviting pressure onto your back four and also not providing a consistant threat from the middle of the pitch. Everton were made to look good as they could dictate the play at a whim. You can also certainly criticise him for playing Dummet who is a nightmare both defensively and then also gives the ball away time after time by just hoofing the ball forward with no disrection or purpose.

I'm more sick and tired of you posting the same comment in this thread game after game.

Well yes, but that comment in particular is spot in and has been after almost every game. Maybe if McClaren tried something different people wouldn't feel the need to point out that here is a man who keeps on doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different outcome.

When you say alternatives have been tried do you mean to say that Colback was not played when unavailable only? And even moving away from player names, have we really tried different formations than a flat back four "protected" by two defensive midfielders, even against weaker opposition at home?

Does that not tell you something but to be honest I wouldn't expect anything else from you.

I mean that we've looked the same (shit) whichever two have played from Colback, Anita, Tiote and Wijnaldum. And regarding formations, the 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1 has been the most successful, so I can see the logic for sticking with it. 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 were both shite, which leaves 3 at the back or a diamond?

Alternatives have been tried and haven't worked. Gini in the centre is not an option, neither is Sissoko. Therefore you have 2 from Colback, Anita or Tiote. So basically we need new CM's.

Why?

Gini has looked shit in limited time centrally, doesn't really have the skillset to be a Cabaye type player and it takes away his freedom to make runs in the final third. Sissoko is fucking thick defensively and can't pass it 5 yards. Plus similarly to Gini it takes away from his greatest skill of making those driving runs into the final third.

Getting panned by journalists on Twitter for describing the second half performance as "magnificent" with only one shot on target.

Again tells you everything you need to know.
