TRon
A team that just lost 5 something in its last away game, sitting 19th in the league is forgivable for being pretty defensive tbh. The likes of West Brom, Palace and Watford have more points than us. A professional 0-0 would've been a decent result imo. If we're talking hypothetically, then a professional 2-0 victory would have been even better. Soak up the pressure then two lightning breaks from Aarons Gouffran on the counter. Hanshithispantz
But you don't play for a 0-0, that makes no sense at all.

You wont get out of this mess by trying to Pardew games & play for draws In the hope that one flash of brilliance coupled with fortuitous defending hands us a series of narrow wins. In case anyone has forgot, this game is all about scoring goals, gaining points & winning trophies.
Bimpy474
Last nights game was there for us, 60 minutes in Stoke couldn't string two passes together and were as poor as you could get at home. Any decent manager would have seen it and put Perez and Doumbia on to go and get all three points. But no we have Steve McClaren, a man scared to change a game, his thinking was a point was there already. That's fine if Stoke were all over us, but they weren't, going for it would have got us the three points. He has to go, you can't have a manager in charge who's scared to go for it when you desperately need points, and the game is there dangling like a carrot for you to grasp. We need someone prepared to give it a go now. And don't give me you can't go for it, being defensive doesn't and hasn't worked this season, we need a change, badly need it. Hanshithispantz
"Professional 0-0" Honestly don't think I've ever heard of a side playing for a 0-0 before like, maybe McLeish's Villa. Even Pardew would throw on his bit of magic after 65 minutes.

TRon
But you don't play for a 0-0, that makes no sense at all. It might make sense if we had a reputation for rock solid defending.

High Five o
Surviving relegation is all about picking up enough points. Clean sheets guarantees points. There is our problem, we can not keep a clean sheet. We do not try to score goals. We are 19th. Rather go all out attack imo.
Guest neesy111
The only reason it was 0-0 because stoke were equally as bad for us for most of the game wasn't because we defended well etc. The game was there for winning and we blew it because of the pathetic excuse of a manager we've got. Hanshithispantz
Aye, a draw would have been a decent result, I get that, it's factually better than a loss, the problem is we played for a draw from the off and lost in any case, which was obviosly going to happen. Guest dabe
We've been beat 1-0 6 time this season. Six FFS. I think the method of trying for a "professional 0-0" doesn't really provide a viable option for us. Probably best to be reckless and hope we get lucky at this stage. Cowardly tactics. Or you look at the details of why you conceded 5 and hold true to your philosophy of attacking the opposition. We played a highline, made defensive mistakes and he learn Coloccini couldnt outrun a goldfish. Great. Now you're playing Jonathan Walters, you have Lascelles coming in & an actual LB again. But fine sack off the high line. Mitrovic & Wijnaldum run about putting no pressure on any dickhead, why not try something different there? Hey they have two cb's, you could play two forwards instead of a withdrawn attacker. Get them to both run at the cb's cutting off short passes. Get your wingers to close down options to the fullbacks. Maybe that wont work. Then try something else & stick to your attacking philosophy. Do anything other than sitting back and conceding possession endlessly. You're far less likely to score yourself & far more likely to concede & wear yourselves out. Its moronic nonsense. Heake
We`re second bottom of the league man, second only to one of the worst sides in premier league history. this "play for a draw & try & snatch a winner" tactics clearly isn't working FFS
TRon
If you are going to set up defensively away from home, then at least give yourself an outlet to break quickly. Was Aarons injured? Or does McClaren genuinely think he's a left back?
mrmojorisin75
He's fucking terrible, got pretty much everything wrong from the moment he walked in the door. I Ashley has Charnley killed for this when we get relegated. Slowly tortured and killed. I'd rather have seen us take a chance on a total gamble and made him play the youth team than watch McClaren fumble through this shitbox of a season with all the money they've thrown at him. BlueStar
Surviving relegation is all about picking up enough points. Clean sheets guarantees points. We've had like two clean sheets in our last 16 games and two nil-nil draws all season. Hoping to keep a clean sheet and pick up a point that way with this defence is insane. If we don't score, we're not getting any points.

sparkzter
He's f***ing terrible, got pretty much everything wrong from the moment he walked in the door. Just said the same in the relegation thread. He has been an utter disaster. Worst thing is everyone other than the board called it.
SUPERTOON
Assuming he was to go after this weekend, which he should regardless of the result, can anyone name a serious and competent replacement that they think would be willing to come in for 11 games and risk a relegation on his CV?
