Sir Bobby Robson didn't make too many mistakes in the transfer market, but Marcelino - signed by Newcastle United for £5m in the summer of 1999 - was one of them.

No hatred, just more top quality journalism from Miles Starforth. :jesuswept:

WTF?! Didnt Guliit sign him?! is that what you mean by top quality!?

Aye. Canny basic stuff for a local "journalist".

thats pissing awful that. Think ill register to tell him how much of a plank he is. Insult to Bobby that story is!

Ironic.

If you were publishing an article, well, anywhere, wouldn't you check it was actually factually accurate beforehand?

Is it not worrying that this is the same journalist who has us waiting for a new signing in the next 24 hours.

That occurred to me too. :D

I am starting to think a city boycott of this paper should be petitioned for

Seriously WTF have they got against us

#

Really loved this part of the article:

Newcastle have completed the £10m signing of another Argentine in Deportivo La Coruna centre-back FABRICIO COLOCCINI.

Coloccini also attracted interest from Tottenham boss Juande Ramos but the North Londoners pulled out of the race

Nice of them to step aside for once. Maybe they could kindly let us have Arshavin as well

Love how the image is supposed to be him cruelly hacking down Roberto Carlos.

"He battered a team mate" then four paragraphs later it says it was one late tackle, well fuck me, hang the twat out to dry.

"There was outcry in Spain at the time with Gutierrez being compared to the likes of Lee Bowyer, Paul Gascoigne and even Mike Tyson." - What does that even mean?

You couldn't make it up. They wouldn't dream of printing that sort of thing about any other club. A bad tackle and a public order offence ffs.

Bit of a disrespectful insult revealing the cause of Oba's mum's death, when they can't even get that right.

I usually don't pay any attention to the dogshit some papers spout, but i'm genuinely pretty angry at all of that like. It's just 100% shit-stirring.

EDIT: Just to explain why the Oba's mum 'reveal' made me angry... it's not so much that i'm disappointed that they didn't point out the intricate details... but it's just the fact that they've heard something, thought "oo, that's interesting and juicy, stick that in" - without a care for what's actually occured, or the remorse involved, but just the fact that it enhances interest in any story - they've just briefly made it up and chucked it in. Atleast George Caulkin at the (erm... Independent is it?) documented it respectfully holding the player in high regard, and spoke of the consequences and realities of what's happened/how the player's reacted, and not simply chucked it in cos the punters will love it.

Am i sounding picky/unreasonable here? Dunno, just found myself gradually getting more and more pissed off as i read the article and it kind of topped it off. :undecided:

Suprised they didnt add how Oba's dreams of one day playing for Arsenal are pulling him through.

 It's funny cos i was going to add something just like that! Surprised they didn't say "Martins, who's subject of a bid from Arsenal, etc etc...". But then, Shaun Custis didn't write it, did he.

Barton so good he's innocent

2/08/2008

Many Newcastle fans have shown their disgust at the club's decision to stick with Joey Barton.

Others have said he's done his time and should be given another chance.

But the one quote which I liked best, which most fans can identify with, came from a Geordie friend of a friend: "You know, towards the back end of the season, he started playing so well that I began to think he might be innocent."

Sad but true.

That Barton comment has to be a total fabrication. Surely no-one can be that stupid?

With regards to the media - stop buying/reading the papers. We are an easy target (again) at the moment. Unfortunately the club has done little to help itself on the PR front over the whole Barton business. :-/

So we should pander to what the papers say?

the only thing that would have appeased them is to have sacked him. KK made a choice not to do that. So fuck them.

We should, as a club, have a blanket ban on speaking to the media and let them peddle their lies. I find it all very amusing, its the mugs who believe it all I feel sorry for.
