Slugsy
Only reason why Heskey has been called up is the dearth of quality english centre forwards rather than Heskey being brilliant - his time has come and gone - rather have a half fit Viduka. Baggio
BLACKBURN admit they will lose defender Stephen Warnock to rivals Newcastle. Kevin Keegan's Toon have been tracking former Liverpool full-back Warnock, 26, all summer. Rovers boss Paul Ince has already earmarked his replacement, West Ham’s 27-year-old Northern Ireland international George McCartney. If that bid fails, Ince will go for Fulham’s Paul Konchesky, also 27. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/article14724.ece

Unlucky Luque
Was alright defending today, but his end product is absolutly woeful. Jose Enrique might not be as good defensive, but twice the player with the ball at his feet.

Jose Enrique might not be as good defensive, but twice the player with the ball at his feet. Agreed - I think Enrique just needs some more time. and i think enrique is a far superior defender. it's the getting forward that he doesn't do so well. i'd rather stick with enrique as first choice but doubt warnock would come as a back up. Guest LondonMag
From the Sunday Sun: NEWCASTLE have failed in a sensational bid for Ruud van Nistelrooy — but are intent on pulling off an equally stunning signing in the next fortnight. Kevin Keegan last night admitted he hopes to bring in FOUR more players before the transfer window closes on August 31. United owner Mike Ashley is hellbent on one of them being a superstar capable of boosting flagging ticket sales at St James’s Park. And sources in Spain last night confirmed that Newcastle approached both Van Nistelrooy and Real Madrid in an attempt to land the Dutch striker following the Euro 2008 finals. But with their recruitment duo of Jeff Vetere and Tony Jimenez being told that there was no chance of a deal, Newcastle became one of five clubs in England and Italy to make a thwarted approach for Van Nistelrooy this summer. However, Ashley and Keegan are still aiming high, with Van Nistelrooy’s Madrid team-mate Javier Saviola on their radar. And Newcastle have also made an approach for yet another Argentinian — Real Mallorca striker Oscar Trejo. West Brom maintain hopes of landing Trejo, 20, as well as his club-mate Borja Valero. But Mallorca’s sporting director Nando Pons said: “Newcastle have contacted directly with us and the answer is the same one we gave to West Bromwich Albion: we will not sell.” Keegan, on the eve of his side’s Premier League opener at Manchester United, said: “I think we will get at least two more signings here, maybe three and, who knows, possibly four.” No way that we can sign 4 players in two weeks

Dr Venkman
i think thats a bit of a simplistic way of looking at it. with any deadline, everyone is aware of when it happens and how long they've got to make their deals, thats why there are more deals on the last day of the window than on the first. saying that i think we'll get two, maybe three if we're lucky. Teasy
Why not?, we're likely in negotiations involving several players right now, obviously its realistic for 3 or 4 of those to come off in Keegans opinion.
Guest
It really is a joke of a paper that. Would really love to know how the story makes the North Tyneside & Gateshead edition, but isn't worthy enough to make it into the South Tyneside one. Its not a case of signing four in three months and then four in two weeks, its eight in three and a half months.
ChezGiven
I dont see it happening but anyone questioning whether a club can sign 4 players in the last 2 weeks of a transfer window really doesnt understand a single thing about the transfer market.
