The transfer policy has only paid off once (when we finished 5th) and even then we were short of what we needed. It's faulty and needed to be changed ages ago. Ironically this playing hard ball policy would be much more effective if the squad was kept well stocked with quality in all areas instead of when we desperately need players.

Clubs look at us and see Shola is right behind Cisse in the starting order. Naturally they will make the most out of it.

L'Equipe reports according to #ol the breakdown in #gomis to #nufc talks was because #gomis refused to make an 'effort' on wage demands

The report has #gomis having originally agreed 4-yr deal at #nufc on higher wages than current 300,000 euros per month at #ol

L'Equipe has #ol claiming #nufc deterred by #gomis unwillingness to budge wage demands

According to #gomis representative failure was #ol fault as club wanted 9 mill euros plus bonuses, #nufc offered 8 mill

L'Equipe asks q time on whose side in #gomis case? Suggests player may be willing to sit on contract, leave for nothing next summer

Heard Lyon is blaming Gomis for not completing the move to us. Think he's wage demands was 70k but MA only wanted to give him 67k a week...?

Seems like the whole thing is really mixed up and everyone just making counter claims. Hopefully can be eventually resolved - them selling him to us for a decent price seems to be the only result that works for everyone.

unless it is something to do with Gomis' demands

Well, even then it's eventually in his interests to compromise and get a move. Unless he's really happy to take his chances and run his contract right down.

Good luck to him if he intends to run his contract down in a WC year. Unless he has no ambitions of Brazil, he will do well to get game time with a very antagonistic chairman.

Is Gomis on 300k net or gross? If it's not net then he's going to get taxed to f***. He won't stay a year and get taxed at 70%.

If it's not net then they are ploughing a massive amount of money into him. So probably gross.

L'Equipe: Gomis Representatives That claim the deal with Newcastle failed Because Lyon wanted € 9m plus bonuses. (€ 10m overall) # NUFC  # OL

We probably did both. Didn't offer enough in transfer fee and didn't offer enough in wages so now club and player are blaming eachother for the deal collapsing.

you'd think they would both blame NUFC then.

I wonder if OL originally quote an original price which we met (or were close to) then they come in with the bonuses thing which just bumps the price up ? similar to debuchy last season.

The disagreement has to be between the two clubs really. I can't see Gomis choosing to rot in their reserves for the sake of a couple of grand a week.

Yeah it makes no sense any other way really.  Lyon accepted 3 bids for Gomis last month and he turned down all three.  This time no bid was accepted, the idea that Lyon just decided to turn the bid down because they heard Gomis wanted slightly higher wages than we were going to offer is ludicrous.
