@RBairner: Lyon president confirmed last night: "We have an agreement with #Newcastle [over #Gomis fee]." Also spoke of #Marseille interest. #NUFC

This source got the Cabaye medical wrong - hope he is right this time.

Jean-Michel Aulas and Bafé Gomis were Tuesday evening in the stands Gerland for the match OL-Grasshopper, but the two were clearly not met. While both sides use different media to try to explain that it is the other who is wrong in this case, the president of Olympique Lyonnais again discussed the situation striker. And for the first time, the Lyon boss talked about a possible interest Om for his player, which he does not believe. Jean-Michel Aulas, Marseille does not really seem to be concerned with this issue and he said why.

" We must come to settle the unfortunate problem with Bafé Gomis which boils down to a money issue. We agree with Newcastle. Om suggests that it may bring Bafé, but I know the situation of the Olympique de Marseille ... , "said the chairman of the Olympique Lyonnais without saying more about it. It now seems clear that the Magpies are the hottest track, even if they also appear to be moved on through negotiations with QPR for Loic Remy.

But when Bafetimbi Gomis play next year? A priori, the OL as its president Jean-Michel Aulas wants to get rid of at any price. Finally, at all costs, maybe not. An offer from Newcastle for € 8 million was rejected by the OL in recent days. Aulas denied by a version that blames Gomis, according to him not ready to wage concessions to reach the Premier League.

On Tuesday, on the sidelines of the victory of the OL against Zurich, Lyon president reiterated his position and confirmed an agreement with the Magpies. "We have come to set the unfortunate problem with Bafé (Gomis) which amounts to a money problem. We agree with Newcastle ... " , he launched the official club website. While a breakdown of negotiations had been discussed in recent days, the track still seems active, if you believe the recent statements of Aulas.

If the Magpies are in pole on this issue, OM is also interested in the French international in case of departure of André-Pierre Gignac. Recently, Gomis has even given its priority club OM, which has the significant advantage of the Champions League. But then, Jean-Michel Aulas has come to a sacred downside to this hypothesis, undermining the financial health of the Olympians. "Om suggests that it may bring Bafé, but I know the situation of the OM " he started. Finally, there is a third option, less likely but beautiful and very real: Gomis could stay, if it is not our base simply everyone. The player, discreet hitherto even welcomed the victory against Zurich a "Go OL! " on Twitter. No offense to Jean-Michel Aulas.

One of the stories was that Marseilles are interested in Gomis but they would have to sell Gignac first and he says he won't leave OM.

Maybe Gomis just doesn't want to join us?

The constant references to Marseille do hint that he might prefer to hold out and join them for a lesser price next year.

Would there be any scope in Gomis being a pawn in our pursuit of Gignac? IIRC we are documented with a bid for Gignac that exceeded what we have offered for Gomis. Just seems odd that we got this close but it hasn't happened. Maybe Gomis wants to go to Marseille but he knows he can only go if they sell Gignac who we have been linked with.

Highly unlikely since Gomis is a competent footballer, who would actually help us, and Gignac is a blob.

Probably right and I don't really like the speculative nonsense that particularly plagues the close season. Just unusual for their to be a link between all three.

My understanding from reading everything from yesterday and today, is that we're happy to continue to pay Gomis what he's on at Lyon provided we get him for a fee slightly less than what they want.

Lyon therefore feel as though Gomis should make do with less so they get th emoney they want.

Gomis feel as though they should let him leave for slightly less so he gets the wages he wants.

Something like that anyway.

In the meantime we're being kept in the hoola hoop.
