So who's going to buy the club?

Insider Info: Sampoerna Group (Putra and his son Michael) are in talks with intermediaries about a bid. Amongst their going concerns is the casino and (now) bookmakers Mansion. The son is a keen gambler, but the father has a massive interest in football. Made their fortune selling the family cigarette company out to Phillip Morris for about $5bil, apparently they're willing to put around £400mil into buying the club and improving the playing and coaching staff in the short term.

That made up or serious?

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, executive director Dennis Wise and vice-president Tony Jiminez were all in Dubai on Monday to seek a new buyer for the club. (The Times)

But attempts to "cold call" representatives of Dubai International Capital (DIC) appear to have been fruitless. (The Guardian)

Ashley is still hoping to sell up to a local consortium of north-east investors. (The Independent)

The Magpies have approached Amanda Staveley, the highly rated businesswoman who helped negotiate the Manchester City takeover, to assist in finding a buyer but she is "too busy to help". (The Guardian)

The club's fans are preparing for an "attritional campaign" to force out Ashley, with a mood of "constructive militancy" holding sway. (The Times)

More than 40 applications for the vacant manager's job have been received but Kevin Keegan is still the bookmakers' favourite to take the post. (The Times)

i can imagine "drunk dialling" being a more humorous imagine

mike ashley & dennis llambias, swigging from bottles of crystal:

"hello, dubai?  is that dubai?  could i speak to someone with 400m to throw away pleash?  a kebab?  no i don't want a ke-"  cue dial tone

I have always thought Wise should be on a market stall selling fruit n veg, so maybe they have set him up a  club market stall in Dubai "Come and get it one off offer when its gone its gone, come and get it 400 mill its a bargain"

Newcastle United bosses spotted in Dubai

Sep 16 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle

NEWCASTLE United’s big three of Mike Ashley, Dennis Wise and Tony Jimenez were yesterday spotted in Dubai – one of the places where they are hoping to sell the club.

But the word from all the financial institutions is that Ashley is going to find it difficult to sell United for a variety of reasons, including the credit crunch and the terrible state of affairs at St James’s.

I hear Ashley is countering that by calling in former Football League chairman Keith Harris, who has successfully brokered the selling of a couple of clubs lately.

I also heard from a top foreign manager yesterday, indicating he would be prepared to come to St James’s as Kevin Keegan’s successor.

But it looks as though that potential candidates will be few and far between after Ashley’s announcement on Sunday tea-time that he was going to sell the club.

Kevin Keegan is keeping his head down after Friday’s meeting with Ashley in London and he is taking a few days’ break in the Spanish sunshine.

In the meantime, all the United fans can do is to hang on the words of managing director Derek Llambias when he said at Newcastle Airport last Saturday night: “We might have something to say during the week.”

oh, hear we go again "i heard from a top Euro manager last night"

To be fair to Oliver he was ridiculed when he said 'we would not believe who was interested in the job' after Allardyce was sacked. He got that one spot on.

didnt he talk about a super agent or someone calling him? cant quite remember exact article.
