The Newcastle United Transfer Thread: D-Day [Spoiler: Not Much Happens]

I think it's strange how both Bolton and Newcastle are both meant to have been after Veloso, a centre-mid, then we buy a centre-mid from Bolton.  If we were seriously after Veloso, then we've pissed on Bolton's chips a bit, haven't we?  If that goes through they'll be -2 centre-mids.  Unless we've left it clear for them to go for him, of course...

on the other hand they couldn't agree a fee then come into an extra 4.5mill

What's the bets Ashley will be spotted in Tokyo on the last day of the window swimming in champagne and smoking out his £100million crack pipe while it turns out the Nolan transfer was pulled because we were apparently signing Veloso who then turned us down in favour of bolton because we only offered him twelve sausage rolls a week to play?

Newcastle United's hitherto dormant January burst into life last night when within the space of a few hours the club agreed fees with Bolton Wanderers for Kevin Nolan and Wigan Athletic for Ryan Taylor, Shay Given submitted a written transfer request and Charles N'Zogbia released a statement saying that he will "never play for the club again" while Joe Kinnear is manager at St James' Park. Add news of a metatarsal injury to Joey Barton that rules him out for the season and it was a dramatic day even by Newcastle's high standards.

Nolan and Taylor will arrive at the Newcastle training ground this morning for medicals. Should they be completed successfully, then both players will be registered for Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby and will make their debuts.

A third Newcastle signing, Marco Donadel, of Fiorentina, is believed to be joining as the Newcastle owner, Mike Ashley, responded to the grave situation he witnessed at Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Nolan, 26, will cost Newcastle £4.5m and offers much-needed experience to a disintegrating midfield. Taylor, who has a habit of scoring against Newcastle, can play right-back in the absence of Habib Beye as well as in midfield.

Newcastle and Wigan have yet to finalise details, but Taylor is out of contract in the summer. A possibility is that N'Zogbia, who has interested Steve Bruce at Wigan, is used in exchange.

The incoming Taylor, out of contract with Wigan in the summer, should be a good acquisition. He can play at right back in the absence of Habib Beye, as well as in midfield or on the wing.

Newcastle have also moved for Bolton midfielder Kevin Nolan and Fiorentina’s former Italy Under 21 skipper Marco Donadel.

Lovenkrands - Forward/winger

Donadel - Defensive Midfielder

Nolan - Box to box midfielder

Taylor - Utility (about 3-4 postions)

Would people be satisfied with this window if all this came off? Think it would be pretty succesful myself considering in its January, obviously I would have preferred Fabregas, Anelka, Yaya Toure and Evra but I would settle till the summer.

Would be decent but we are also loosing a good left winger and not replacing him and a goalkeeper.

Shit are we selling Jonas?  :frantic:  Oh no you mean Insomnia?..  ???  Also Given doesn't need replacing IMO.

I would be very happy with that, but I suspect the stuff about Donadel, Veloso and M'Bia is unfortunately nonsense.  We clearly don't have much money and none of those three will come cheap.  If we had any money, we wouldn't have waited until Jan 30th.

We may get Nolan and Taylor, but I would be surprised if we managed to get Donadel as well. If we got all four though, I would be impressed with our efforts all things considered.
