taxfree
Pretty shite that. “But it is not just about funding. Category One clubs can cherry-pick the best young players in the area, so the knock-on effects are huge.” How? Surely it's up to the player?
ATB
How the fuck could we miss out to be a category One club It would be embarrassing and bad.
Guest Roger Kint
How the fuck could we miss out to be a category One club It would be embarrassing and bad. Depends what criteria they check. Assuming its not just the quality of facilities which are under inspection otherwise we would surely be up there.
ATB
How the f*** could we miss out to be a category One club It would be embarrassing and bad. Depends what criteria they check. Assuming its not just the quality of facilities which are under inspection otherwise we would surely be up there. To be honest I´m a bit surprised that we eventually wouldn´t pass the criteria that is demanded. But most shocked I´m I because we know that the club is working hard with the youth department now days, etc spending a lot of money, and still we can´t find out the demands so we pass it. binnsy
major major blow to the club if we get knocked back. Just shows to show how much of a shambles the academy was under Shepherd when you think how much Ashley has already spent on it.

Bet Ashley will actually get the entire blame from a few (not on this forum).
Guest Craig-NUFC
Remember about a year ago, someone posted a few paragraphs about our academy having to play catch up due to the mismanagement and neglect it suffered over the years. Sure it'll be up to scratch in a year or so with the amount of money and effort that seems to be getting put in to improving the structure of the club. Guessing that we missed out due to not having a place for the players to live or an education centre (think they're requirements, but could be making it up)
ATB
The question is still. What are we lacking in quality? To see it positive. This will really get us a kick in the back (if we should need one) and we will only come out stronger.

Just shows to show how much of a shambles the academy was under Shepherd when you think how much Ashley has already spent on it. How much has been spent on it? Does anyone actually know the amount? According to this article Mike Ashley spends 1.8 million, on the academy annually. It's worth pointing out that the academy is probably funded by the club also. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2012/02/22/nufc-academy-aims-to-be-among-the-very-best-72703-30379504/
Matt
I read that as £1.8m per year by the club at Ashley's direction, you have to consider the wayward writing style of Lee Ryder.

Pilko
Why hasn't Tavernier signed yet? He said he wanted to stay, Pardew wants to keep him and said he'd be at the club '100%' for the coming season.
