U23s & Academy

Even less coaches then.

They were saying on the True Faith podcast that the reason we don't have category 1 status is only because of the lack of coaches. A pretty pathetic reason. Obviously this is reserves but it just shows what a mess we are. Going the extra bit for something that could payoff big in the future just isn't worth it to Ashley. I really hope it means that he's looking to sell.

The lack of success at the Academy is meant to be an a real issue for Ashley but if he really cares surely the extra investment would pay off in the longterm.  There are too many people at SJP doing 2 or 3 jobs and certainly I heard that one of the reasons why we keep failing Category 1 status is because we don't have staff fulfilling a single role but multiple roles instead.  If that is the case then Ashley can only blame himself for the Academy's failings.

However, every thing the club does at the moment screams short-term so you have to think he is looking to sell up soon.

Fully except that we don't have the best academy going but some of the stuff in here is a bit rubbish really.

Our academy isn't actually doing that bad I don't think. Dummett and Sa. Amoebi are both on the fringes of the first team. We've got a 16-year-old lad who has scored goals for fun at U21 level this season and has been on the bench the last three games. We've got a good few of the older academy players out on loan this year. All in all not too bad in my opinion (though of course I'd like it to be even better).

Donachie sounds like an idiot - let's use it as an opportunity to strengthen the youth setup further.

ICNewcastle (The Chronicle & The Journal) said Willie Donachie won't be replaced until the Summer.

That'll be not at all then.

Would Ian Bogie be in with a shout of this gig? Seemed to play good football with Gateshead and had a big part in forging a link between the club & Gateshead College, getting kids from there to play for the Gateshead Reserves against Football League clubs reserves.

Fair to say if he gets the gig and fails, then we can blame it on the Bogie

Oh that's good.

Seems like a lot is to be determined in the summer. Would really hope that points to some major changes all over versus saving on wages, like.

The PL u21 league is being replaced with an u23 from next season.  It's reckoned to help bridge the gap between the Academy and the 1st team.

That article says Newcastle have Category 1 Academy status. It still hasn't been officially confirmed by NUFC has it?
