Guest firetotheworks
I don't think any of them have the consistency to be able to do it for long enough tbh. I don't think Lukaku will get anywhere near, Rooney was the one player that could have got close if he'd stayed as a striker/not turned to shit anyway. Tubestationatmidnight
It would take someone of the class of Aguero to come to the premiership when they are 20/21 and get 20 a season until they are 33/34. Big ask. Shearer had a ferocious strike and was so good in the air which allowed him to still score goals into his mid 30s
Guest firetotheworks
Based on Aguero's average at the moment, if he plays another 5 years with the same average goal scoring rate in the league, he'd end up on just over 200, so another season or two, or if he has a couple of Shearer 30-35 level seasons, he'd probably get pretty close. joeyt
Lukaku has 67 goals and is 23 and a half, so he'd need another 194 goals to beat Shearer, and need to average about 20 a season for the next 10 seasons if he plays until he's 34 in the division

He'll be off in 2020 when his contract ends. he'd need 151 goals, is 28 and has had minor injury problems ever since he came to the country...however i agree that it would take someone of his class in a team that's dominating or consistently challenging for the league to come close to 260 goals, shearer was simply that good it's mind-boggling to think he wasn't even playing in one of the best teams in the country for most of his career
Guest firetotheworks
I think he'll get pretty close to 200 providing he stays injury free. He's the only player with the consistency when he plays.
Fenham Mag
Lukaku won't get anywhere near. Shearer got to 260 due to an incredible mental attitude and every NUFC team being built around him. He will probably go back to Chelsea and be left on the scrapheap.
Fenham Mag
I can only see Shearers record being beat if the PL gets a Messi or Ronaldo for their full careers.
Guest firetotheworks
I can only see Shearers record being beat if the PL gets a Messi or Ronaldo for their full careers. It's funny that you say that because I've just checked and Ronaldo is on 265, which puts Shearer's record into context imo (just ignore the bit about how Ronaldo's done it in 244 matches). Messi's on 320 and he's 29, so a Messi would probably be overkill like. I still love that stat about Messi scoring more hat tricks in 11/12 than Shearer did in his career. Yorkie
Suarez might have got it, Rooney's the otherbut that isn't going to happen. Can't see any current PL-dweller reaching it, though.

Hanshithispantz
Shearer's record really is incredible like. He had the advantage of longer seasons for 3 year but he never played in the Premiership until he was 22 (and obviously had injuries which hampered him/changed the way he played). To put it into perspective Aguero joined the Premiership at a similar age and is 150 goals off. He'd need to average 25 goals a season until he was 36 to match Shearer's record. Robster
I was very wary of Thierry Henry. I thought he was going to break it if he'd hung around at Arsenal for much longer.

You don't think Ronaldo (who actually scored 23, 42, and 26 goals in England) or Messi (who regularly pisses all over the best English teams) wouldn't score as many goals in the Premier League? You can't be serious?
TRon
Shearer played more or less all of his career in the PL right? I can't see any of the modern day superstar strikers doing that. The best bet would have been a British striker like Rooney.

Didn't he "struggle" for goals against English clubs before the last few years? Also, are you not capable of disagreeing with someone without sounding like a total twat? It's almost like as Ronaldo matured as a footballer he got better at scoring goals. You are talking about the two best goalscorers in the world who routinely shit on the best on Europe. They'd shit on the league.
