The old Chris Hughton discussion thread

Recommended Posts

On reflection, was it a bad thing Kadar wasn't at LB yesterday? The dutch lad looked our best player going forward at times.

he did, was moderately impressed with him, kadar ain't a specialist lb so shouldn't be relied on to fill in out there/ And would anyone have played him at cb ahead of the impressive williamson or colo?

You don't give kids experience at the expense of the team, you give them experience if they're good enough to step up.

this, we must get promoted at all costs, and next year we've got to stay up. you bring in the younguns when we're comfortably safe in the league AND they look like they'll add something.

I'm not sure about Hughton stepping down, in a lot of ways I'd rather give him a chance in the Prem than jump back onto the endless depressing managerial rollercoaster of previous years.

We'd sack him by Christmas anyway.

In a way there could be more stability if he offered to step down because it could let us prepare for and get a decent manager before using the summer properly for a change. Not going to happen like.

Unfortunately we are stuck with Hughton for the foreseable future, whether we go up or stay put, he's not going anywhere I'm afraid and he's certainly not going to stand down, so it's a bit of a pointless debate. IF we get promoted he'll be sacked with 10 games most likely.

I think he definitely needs to be replaced but it needs to be someone who can do a job long term because we can't keep fucking about changing manager every 5 minutes, it just doesn't work and doesn't make for a succesful club. I would go with Hughes if he is still available but I doubt he would be a very popular choice on the whole.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did stand down if we get promoted, I think he's a decent person who is out of his depth and he'll realise that at some point.

Anyone who thinks Hughton will be replaced if we get promoted is seriously deluded. That just doesn't happen in the real world.

Why? I could imagine if we missed out on the CCC title or let alone promotion Ashley would sack Hughton. He did it with Big Sam as well (old times, I know, but still)

If Ashley had even considered chucking him as soon as we went up, he wouldn't have given him such a big contract. It's not going to happen before the start of the season. It will eventually, before Christmas i'd imagine, but certainly not before a ball is kicked.

Not a chance.

Was just thinking that. Whats the odds on Ashley sacking him if we dont get promoted ?

He's only on 200k a year...

Can't believe the attitude towards Hughton on here. In my opinion he is winning in spite of the state of the team. People on here were clamouring for Mark Hughes and I had to laugh. If Mark Hughes came in tomorrow who do you think would be in the first team? You think he would leave Smith, Nolan or Butt out? Keep kidding yourself. Huge credit to Hughton for benching Butt, which I honestly don't think most other British managers especially, would have done. It's a tough balancing act, as unfortunately our worst players are our most experienced. If he can just promote us and get us into the summer I feel he has a good eye for decent players and would sort things out properly. For now he's grinding out the results however he can get them. Sack him? Crazy talk.

Fuck balancing acts. These 'experienced' players can't cut it so drop them, experience counts for fuck all if you do fuck all as well. Hughton doesn't drop these passengers so he's massively at fault.

He will drop a passenger and replace them with a passenger. Guthrie was the most recent flavour of the month but people have started to turn on him now.

Fact is he doesn't have the energy to make much of a difference to the middle of the park which is where we really struggle. The only player who could come close to doing what is needed is injured and has been nowhere near the player he can be since he arrived here from Manchester City anyway.

Where we have dropped the ball is not signing an energetic central midfielder, whether Ashley would sanction us signing one with 4 already on the books is something we won't know. Obviously if Hughton has been told no he will be making noises in the press about being happy with his options because he is hardly going to turn round and say "yeah we have the numbers but in honesty they are a bit shit, aren't they?".
