Interesting to see two completely different approaces. Them consolidating with experienced players who will neither take them forwards nor backwards. Then us gambling on foreign flair players who could significantly improve us or take us down a couple of notches.

Arsene Wenger Plans Arsenal Capitulation Earlier

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, is planning an earlier title collapse for the coming season to allow his players time to recover for the following season.

The Gunners were still very much in contention for the Premier League title going into April, but a massive meltdown resulted in Wenger's men finishing fourth.  Wenger believes the capitulation has affected the team's preparations for the coming season.

A source close to the Arsenal boss thinks the collapse will be planned for January.  "We made a huge mistake in being in the running for the Premier League title as late as April.  The players are still deflated and mentally fatigued after dropping out of the race for the championship.  We need to learn the lessons and protect the players from such disappointments.  They are still very young, but show a lot of potential.

"After speaking to Arsene, we have decided that our league challenge collapse will begin in late January next season.  We should be out of the title race by March and we can then concentrate on picking the players up and preparing for the following season.  We are hoping that van Persie will spend his usual 20 games a season injured and that the form of Fabregas and Wilshere drop as they did last season.  The trick is to make sure these things happen at the right time.

"We also need to achieve our annual profit target on player transfers, so a few experienced guys will leave and we'll replace them with more precocious young talent from France with no experience.  The blue-print for our plans is finalised, we just need to get our heads down and see it through."

We understand Wenger has planned a touchline rant at some point in January, leading to a significant ban.  We also believe Wenger intends to ignore calls for experienced signings and continue to rely on promising youngsters with great spirit and 'togetherness.'

With the sickening glee that too many Mackems seem to be greeting the prospect of signing Barton what does the club stand for nowadays?

In the past we had a widely acknowledged and cherished set of values and traditions which made us stand out as something in society.

Overt racism ?

Invading the pitch every time they play a big club ?

Regularly attacking opposition players on the field of play knowing they will never be punished ?

From what I've read he's not quite ready to start week in week out in the Premier League. Still a young boy with a massive price tag (relatively for his age), massive shoes to fill and the expectation he comes in and scores about 15 given his fee and reputation from his (retarded) fans. Cracking potential but they need the goods now. This move could break him.

Jon Stead mk II.

Yeah, think it's just one year too early for us to be making this sort of buy. We need that cash for a proven striker.

Thing is so do Sunderland, so unless there's another big-money striker going there, this is a huge gamble by them unless they're counting Frazier Campbell has their main forward alongside Gyan now.

£13m for a striker who has a goal ratio of around 0.25 per game in championship. No thanks. I know he's young and all but imo it's risky business.

Quite likely  :snod:

Stead was arguably even more highly rated at the same stage of his career.

One thing for sure is if he does go to Sunderland you can deduce that there was no one else seriously interested.
