I think we're demanding too much. Boyd can turn out to be a cheap but quality acquisition and can chip in enough to keep us up. He'll do us good service for the first two years back in the premierleague. We can look to improve later.

This thread is a total joke. Kris Boyd won't even be signing for Newcastle, so I don't know why you're getting your knickers in a twist about whether he will or won't cut it at Premiership level...even though it's fucking obvious he will...as he'll no doubt go on to prove at Birmingham or Blackburn Rovers.

I heard from someone Boyd was at the training ground twice last week on Wed & Thu. His source is someone who works at the club.

The game has moved on and a specialist finisher is not as valuable at the top level any more. More is expected of strikers in terms of movement, holding the ball up and creating things for other players.

 

We seem to be getting a bit obsessed about this, that or the other striker and how many goals they've scored, but if you're not creating chances than it's academic. We were quite predictable last season and that needs to be addressed regardless of who fills the forward positions.

I totally agree on that front.  :thup:

 

It's a bit of a shame really, although that seems the way football is going now, the focus on athleticism over skill is that we are seeing is all wrong IMO. Although you can see why teams are doing it.

I don't see a problem with getting Boyd. Minimal risk financially, has a proven track record of goalscoring albeit at a lower level and can probably be moved on for a few million should he be shit.

 

Agree with this, if we've got enough money to offer him a weekly wage that is.

Yep, this will be as good as it gets so we should really be trying to beef up the squad a bit. Couple of frees like this and 3 good loans would be great considering we are not spending.
