Hatem Ben Arfa

Pardew doesn't seem to know what to do with the players he's got atm. Any more 4-4-2's with Shola up front, jesus! We should have had 5 in the middle last night and that was glaringly obvious 20 minutes into the game. The players were there to do it as well. Marveaux would have worked. Ben Arfa can't come quick enough.

The negative bastard in me says he's going to replace Jonas with Barfa on the left when he's fit. And Shola will still start.

Ultimately it has to be

                    Ba

Marveaux Ben Arfa  Jonas

Ba or Best is down to form, but if Ba gets going he will provide some more edge to the attack than best. Also, with Ba and Ben Arfa playing, our attacking play will become dynamic instead of this static shit with Shola and Best both playing so far away from the midfield.

Can't fucking wait for Ben Arfa to come back. A year ago I never thought we'd see the day, now it's supposedly less than two weeks away.

Was hoping to see his name on the team sheet, a 20 min run out today would have done him the world of good.

Do we have anymore reserve matches before Forest?

Next home game is Liverpool but not until 18th Oct.. dunno about away ressie fixtures

Cannot wait until he is fit but there is an issue if we play him on the left straight away with Santon at LB, thats a very raw left side.

So do we keep Jonas on the left until we are sure Santon can cope with Prem football and play HBA wide right or off the striker ?

Wouldn't play him left at all, Jonas is our left winger and a very good outlet he is too.

I'd ply him up front with Leon best and send Shola to the glue factory.

for fucks sake man, this preoccupation with wingers, 4-4-2, target man flicking on for a little speedster is so totally and utterly shite.

It's not as daft as whacking the ball towards two big target men because you think they will dominate the opposition centre backs through size without thinking through where the ball will land in some random area of the pitch.

I give you tactics a la Pardew.

not last season......this season though i'm at a loss as to what we are playing at. fairly sure he'll play ben arfa behind the forward and with the bog standard middle 4.

Last season's players were far more suited to this season's tactics. Pards might hit on a winning combination this season through trial and error so all hope isn't lost.

Dont think its so much to do with strikers as midfielders really. Basically he hasnt sorted the midfield out yet, and if your midfields wrong your entire team will look s***.

We need Tiote and Cabaye to get adjusted, which I'm sure they will and when Gosling, Marveaux and Ben Arfa get up to speed we should look alright. I'm quite happy to give it some more time yet.

Dotcom reckon he won't play at Forest, saying that prediction is looking increasingly unlikely.

Where? The only thing i can see about him are in the pre Villa info: Hatem Ben Arfa (leg) There still seems to be genuine hope that he'll play some part in the Forest game.

It didn't say that earlier on like.

That'll be an improvement, though I hope it's not the only change we'll see.

I'd agree with your earlier point that playing two strikers, with one hoping to feed off the other's flick-ons, is a poor and outdated tactic. It's predictable and the strikers can end up isolated from the midfield. If we have two strikers, one should be in an advanced position and the other withdrawn, linking with the midfield, rather than playing side by side.

Similarly, in a 4-4-2 there's the danger that the two players in the centre end up alongside one another and therefore not testing the opposition defence. That's the trap we fell into against QPR. Someone has to be getting forward, even if the players take it in turns to do so.

I do believe that we now have the players who can play a more modern 4-3-3-type style. I'm hoping it's just a matter of getting players fit and ready. Good player though he is in a 4-4-2, I'm not sure if Jonas can adapt to playing in that way. I hope so, because we could use his energy and determination, but he is more of a specialist winger. We'll see in time.

Shame much of the excitement about the midfield partnership of Tiote and Cabaye has dissipated after they both seem to be

a) being bypassed by high balls

b) are both quite deep lying at present

...and, as usual, we're back to hoping we play decent football when HBA returns from injury!

Don't worry, that'll soon be nipped in the bud after we've played another shite half a dozen games with him in the team. O0

Pardew talked about Ben Arfa in April: “He will play a central role in our attacking line. I want to use him as a playmaker, a number 10, just behind one forward.”

Seems to be not a lie  :cheesy:

Slightly concerned that he's going to be burdened with the expectations of turning us around as soon as he gets back into the team, and could be very bad for him. He's not going to be fully match fit as soon as he's back from injury and he'll take time adapting back to the game, worst thing would be to rush him back into the team and then him overwork himself and get injured.

Turning us around? Must have missed us being bottom now like. As we currently give Shola games to do sod all then surely its just as easy to let HBA do that without overworking him? Some people really do think far to much into things
