I mentioned Tioté on twitter as #BestTransferYourClubHasMade and got this response from somebody:

@Sewellyy personally I don't like him. He's to eager to leave midfield and find the ball, leaving cabaye in the middle by himself

@Kingfunkel Who do you support?

@Sewellyy Newcastle. He runs round like a headless chicken. We're better when Guthrie plays

@Sewellyy hes decent for 45mins til he tires himself out.A foot hold?He does nothing but give away freekicks and leaves an open space in MID

:anguish:

Proof that Twitter is mainly full of idiots. Like the world in general I suppose.

There’s no place like home for Newcastle United’s Cheik Tiote

COMMITTED ... Newcastle midfielder Cheik Tiote is at home on Tyneside.

CHEIK Tiote feels at home at Newcastle United – and has no intention of leaving the club.

The midfielder has long been linked with a big-money move away from St James’s Park.

And Chelsea are among the clubs to have had Tiote watched last season, when he was a pivotal figure as Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League.

‘My future is at Newcastle United’ says Cheik Tiote

However, the 25-year-old, despite the potential financial riches – not to mention Champions League football – potentially on offer elsewhere, is committed to United, the club he joined from FC Twente as an unknown two years ago.

The Gazette understands Tiote told his team-mates late last season he had no intention of leaving Newcastle, as did midfield partner Yohan Cabaye.

Tiote is also settled on Tyneside off the pitch, which helps him perform on the field.

“I like living in Newcastle, very much,” Tiote told the Gazette.

“It is a very simple life for me.

“I am at home with my family and I can just chill some days for the whole day. But when I want to go out and do some stuff, I can do that as well.

“People here are more friendly than aggressive, so life is all right for me here.”

Tiote is one of a number of Francophone players in Alan Pardew’s squad, but the Ivory Coast international – who played for his country in their 2-2 draw against Morocco last weekend – insists there aren’t any cliques in the dressing room.

“The French players have settled in, but it’s about the team here,” Tiote added.

With Tiote committed to the cause, of more concern is the future of striker Demba Ba, who had been a summer target of Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp.

Ba has a £7m release clause in his deal, and Turkish club Galatasaray have also been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old, signed on a free transfer last summer.

Pardew said late last season that the club would look to renegotiate his contract.

  • 4 weeks later...

CHEICK TIOTE is understood to be on new Tottenham Hotspur boss André Villas-Boas’ wish-list.

Buy Football Tickets on Ebay Sources in the capital have indicated to the Chronicle that AVB has rekindled his interest in signing Tiote after monitoring his performances during his ill-fated stint as boss of Chelsea, although he is one of four midfield targets.

Villas-Boas, who will bring his side to St James’ Park for his first game in charge on August 19, will be stepping up his hunt for new faces this week after joining Spurs last week.

But like Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City – who are also keen on Tiote – Spurs will have to find a hefty fee to land his services.

Tiote is rated at £15million, but Newcastle will be looking for a bigger price than that.

The 25-year-old has made it clear that he doesn’t want to quit the Magpies and United boss Alan Pardew wants to hold on to all of his big names as he looks to build on last season.

It is also believed that, should Tiote be sold, FC Twente would be entitled to a 5% sell-on fee after recouping around £4.5million two summers ago.

The battling midfielder has told United he wants to stay, and Spurs can’t offer him anything more than Europa League football – something he helped achieve for the black and whites last season anyway.

Man City football development executive Patrick Vieira has highly recommended Tiote to the Premier League champions’ oil-rich owner, but the Ivory Coast star knows that he is guaranteed first-team football at St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, anxieties at United in the striker department have been eased considerably after Senegal respected the Magpies’ decision to make Papiss Cisse unavailable for the Olympic games football tournament.

The fact that Cisse and Demba Ba could also be knocked out of the African Cup of Nations play-offs by Tiote’s Ivory Coast has reduced the pressure to sign a big-name striker.

The big concern striker-wise was that the two Dembas could be missing for six weeks after Christmas if Senegal went all the way in the South Africa finals.

Now, though, Pardew will know exactly who will be available to him by October in what has proved to be a fortunate play-off draw for the Magpies.

United have moved on to their next target after the bid for Luuk de Jong became too complicated.

The Chronicle understands that United have wasted no time looking at other striker options. Ba’s future will become clearer after July 31 when the release clause on his current deal will be deactivated.

Until then Newcastle are vulnerable and with Ba’s representatives in line to scoop £3.5million if he leaves, nobody at the club’s Benton base can take anything for granted.

So what they're saying is clubs aren't willing to pay what is needed to sell him and he doesn't want to go anyway? So why isn't story "Spurs aren't really bothering to try and sign Tiote"
