I wonder how long it will be till we are able to say that? 2011 I'm guessing. They're playing the way a lot of promoted teams do when they first come up - without fear. Hull did it brilliantly when they came up and more or less had the points that kept them up by the end of November. These teams just go out and enjoy themselves, carrying their momentum from the play-offs with them and, importantly, initially play the same way they do at home when they go away. We will of course go away from home and play like frightened kittens. I hate the whole attitude to home and away games, it's become accepted now that teams can cower in their shells away from home. Yes, there is a difference but it's mainly psychological therefore deliberately going out with a different attitude is shooting yourself in the foot before you've even started, you should actually be trying to approach the game in the same way mentally. At the end of the day, it's still 22 blokes kicking a ball round a field, the way folk go on you'd think they play different rules depending on whether you're in Newcastle or Wigan. Great post. I agree with most of that, however playing on the counter attack away from home can be very useful as the emphasis is usually on the home team to attack. The atmosphere can obviously have a big effect on the players aswell, that is of course unless you're a Wigan Athletic player as then it becomes a disadvantage. You'd think so but you wouldn't know it by the number of times we've gone to the JJB/DW/whatever the fuck that tit calls it now, played like we're playing Barcelona and ended up coming away with fuck all. Playing teams like this so soon in the season can sometimes be a real banana skin. Even Burnley turned over Man Utd last year. Jonas and Routledge were a no show yesterday. We set up a agme at home as if we were playing away to Man Utd and look what happened. Having been gutted initially and feared the worst, it was somewhat edifying to hear that we didn't play too badly and that equally Blackpool put in a remarkable away performance which caused Holloway to say it was the best night of his managerial life! Still very disappointed that we didn't put our chances away, but next week's fixture will be tough against an Everton aside who seemingly haven't got just rewards for their performances of late. Here's hoping for better fortune/clinical play next week. Also, was anyone's performance so bad that Hughton would consider starting someone else? Perch? Smith? The job of the manager should be to try and negate the psychological impact and imo deliberately intending to go into the match with a different attitude is doing the opposite.
