Football's greatest - where does Lionel Messi rank?

He has skills that are unique to him. The way he scooped the ball over Neuer with his weaker foot was amazing.

He's undoubtedly the best of his generation. The only contest is with Pele, Maradona and Cruyff.

Was amazing  not only does he completely fuck Boateng in the ass, he then proceeds to lob the most physically imposing keeper around.

Just fuck off seriously, how is that even possible

Fuck contest. We've come to the conclusion here that players are the best of their respective generation. Messi pisses on everyone he has ever played with or against which is all he could do. Will be at least another 20 years before we see another one like him.

Thinking of knocking watching football on the head when Messi retires. Only downhill from there.

 You do have a knack of finding the cloud behind every silver lining.

Ive only seen the second goal, how good was the first that everyone is raving about?

Driven finish to the bottom corner from just outside the box. Second was better IMO

Watching that game last night, I had mixed emotions.  It seemed like a totally different sport to what NUFC play.  Made me depressed at how shit we are and how pathetic our style of football is.

I also then imagined Messi running at Williamson or Steven Taylor  I'd pay good money to see that.

Messi is a joke.  The first goal was pretty impressive.  As Neuer seemed unbeatable up until that point.  The second was just insanely good.  He then got an assist to cap the night off and kill the tie.

Unbelievable player.

The way he nonchalantly dinks it over the keeper, whilst running at a fair pace, from just outside the six yard box, man. With his weaker foot.

Fair play for two excellent goals, but that little dribble in the first half where he goes in between two and then plays a little nutmeg before playing a quick pass to Rakitic. Or the two-footer and then I think he crossed it in. Those feet. Wish I saw Maradona in his prime so I could compare, some say Maradona was even better at all that except scoring goals.

He's nothing short of a footballing genius. For me there's nothing and never has been anything like the experience of watching Messi live. It's pornographic.

There was a point during a replay of his second where Tyler and Neville were just silent. It totally summed it up for me, everyone lost the use for words ages ago, he's just the greatest and I can't imagine anyone having ever played the game better than him.

Agree. I'm going to the Nou Camp to see him at some point, I need to see him in the flesh.

The good thing of having had to return to Spain, is that at least I can see him in the flesh. That I will be able to tell to my sons.

 yeah, I need to see him at least once, he's going to go down as the world's greatest

I can say that I saw him, but it was for 25 minutes against Almeria under Rijkaard and it was when Ronaldinho wasn't at his best either. Absolutely need to see him as well. We should have a forum trip there tbh, me and a couple of mates were talking about going anyway.
