The Prophet
Would you rather be the home team needing to win or the away team needing to draw?
Exiled in Texas
Wouldn't the team who didn't have the player sent off have to stop take their 11th player off the list too? It's called "reduce to equate" and the premise behind this is that it would be unfair for a team with only 9 players to have their top player shooting a second time while the other team with 11 players still had their 10th and 11th players shooting who are presumably not very good (assuming it went that deep in rounds). So both teams would always have equal number of their top players available for the shootout
Ryan
What language do the players and officials talk in at the WC when they're talking to each other? Would it be basic English? I realise this is probably the daftest question to be asked in here

I realise this is probably the daftest question to be asked in here All FIFA refs have to be able to speak English. They'll often have a Spanish-speaking ref if both teams speak Spanish as well though.

Guest firetotheworks
All of the bigger teams tbh. All full of dicks in their fanbase and in their media. I would imagine that we're pretty high up, along with the Germans.

henke
Apologies if this has been done. If Brazil, Germany or Argentina win the World Cup and lift the current trophy for the 3rd time, do they get to keep it? Like Brazil got to keep the Jules Rimet trophy. Sima
I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that a team has to win this trophy five times.
henke
Cheers dude. In that case I hope none of them win it. I think it's a fantastic looking trophy, probably close second behind the European cup. Edit: you swine just seen the spoiler.
Yorkie
I think the answer is 'unknown'. FIFA have said that the trophy itself can't be won outright, but a gold-plated replica will be awarded. Whether that insinuates we'll have a new trophy if one of those three triumph this year, I'm not sure. Either way, there's only room for four more engravings, so it'll change after 2030 at the latest.
WarrenBartonCentrePartin
Let someone win it and keep it and get a new one, tbh. Being picky here, but actually make the World Cup a cup.
LRD
Is it right that substitutions can only be made in regulation time, meaning if Costa Rica had kept the ball right til the end, the Netherlands would not have been able to send Krul on for the penalty shootout after the final whistle? A goalkeeper who is injured while kicks are being taken from the penalty mark and is unable to continue as goalkeeper may be replaced by a named substitute provided his team has not used the maximum number of substitutes permitted under the competition rules Barring that: With the exception of the foregoing case, only players who are on the field of play at the end of the match, which includes extra time where appropriate, are allowed to take kicks from the penalty mark So yes, you're correct, Krul would not have been able to come on in anything but under the guise of poor sportsmanship after Cillessen fakes an injury. LRD
Ah. Guess there's no way to stop the substitution going ahead if Cillessen decided to feign injury after the final whistle then.
mrmojorisin75
guess he'd have to line up for the first kick though, and feign injury after that
Guest
What would have happened if after the substitution, Krul had got booked twice in the shoot-out for ungentlemanly conduct or whatever?
