Other clubs' transfers

The bloke is a moron who behaved disgracefully not too long ago, banging on about wanting to leave to get himself a fat new contract. He also goes for months on end playing terribly before finding any form. Him leaving in the summer (not Jan) would not be a disaster for Man United at all.

If they got in a good enough replacement it wouldn't, no.

Yeah they couldn't get away with no signing a replacement like when Ronaldo went, but if they were to have one lined up before selling him then they will be fine.

I'd go if I was him tbh. If I was a player I'd try and play in all the top leagues, not just stay in one league.

Aye, I'd do the same. Rooney's career at Man U seems to have somewhat stalled (especially now, what with Rooney playing in midfield!). A move abroad would do him a lot of good methinks.

They will sell. He's trouble and never lived up to the hype. Not good enough to lead a club like Man U on his own like Ronaldo and Messi, but he's paid like them.

Scholes ready to save United

By NEIL CUSTIS

PAUL SCHOLES is ready to answer an SOS from Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson and come out of retirement.

SunSport revealed last month that his former United team-mates had been trying to encourage the 37-year-old midfielder to help them out of their injury crisis.

The Red Devils legend at first ignored their pleas. But increasingly Scholes has been having a rethink and will now answer a call from the boss if it comes in the second half of the season.

Fergie was convinced at the end of last season that Scholes had at least another year left in him — just like 38-year-old veteran Ryan Giggs.

But the player was happy to bow out at the end of last season with the club winning a record 19th title.

However, as soon as this season started, he was questioning his own decision and badly missed training and playing.

Scholes is still fit enough to play as he trains with the reserves every day at Carrington as well as coaching them.

While Scholes is reluctant to go to Fergie directly to offer his services, he will now help out if called upon.

Ferguson has had to mix and match his midfield and defence all season due to injuries.

One-club man Scholes joined United as a 14-year-old and went on to make nearly 700 appearances, scoring 150 goals.

yeah but net spend is through the floor. Lower than 'setting the transfer window alight' sunderland iirc. Think where they's spent it has been dubious in the extreme though, can only think that they have a lot of faith in their young midfielders that's taking longer to pay off than it should. Also Fergie likes creativity on the wings and more box to box players in middle so maybe he's just let it slide because of that, but the quality there is poor.

Was centre mid really all that "glaring" before November?  I disagree.  I don't think SAF or anyone at their club with the least bit of input on the matter would have let CM go unfixed last summer if they really felt it was going to be a problem.

They had Fletcher, Carrick, Cleverly, Anderson, Giggs all capable.  With Vidic and Ferdinand both healthy Jones was also being deployed as a DM as well for another option.

Even though none of those names are a true/established creative midfielder type that many Man Utd fans were calling out for I still don't think it was glaring as they had Nani, Young, Valencia and Park on the wings or to slot in in the center to help provide.  Then the injuries hit all at once; Vidic out for the season, Fabio and Rafael picking up knocks and missing games, Fletcher out indefinitely, Smalling out, Young out, Cleverly out, Ferdinand aging in months overnight instead of days, Anderson out until February at least.  It's caused chaos along the back 4 and the midfield as well.

I think everything for their first team, bar forwards, is really up in the air right now.  Can't say I'm particularly unhappy about the prospect; by comparison they've had tremendous luck with injuries over the years.

Fletcher is a decent defensive midfielder, but not a world beater. Carrick is workmanlike, Anderson my man U mate rates but don't quite see it and Cleverley is unproven. Giggs is quality but old.  remember I watched the champions league final oddly enough with some chinese kids who were exchange students or something heh, they were really confident because man u is the best club in the world, i told them they were going to lose because their midfield wasn't good enough...

Sneijder talk was premature, he's not been so good since Mourinho left, and plays a different role to anything Ferguson likes players to play. A huge bid in for Goetze or someone though would have been sensible. I think on their day Man U are a very very good team, but when you're expecting to win the league against City, and compete for Champions League, and probably win a cup at least on the side, their team comes up severely wanting. They have striking talent, they've been unfortunate at the back (though probably could do with a few more players) but their midfield has been winging it for a while. I don't think this is because they haven't noticed, I think it's because they have limited funds, and midfielders they need were probably priced beyond them, why they then spent the money they did on the players they did...no idea.

Fletcher's never been a defensive midfielder and Carrick is far from workman like. He's a cultured player who needs a combative player alongside.

They need someone capable of controlling that midfield area. Any type really. The more offensive Fabregas type or the more deep Alonso type. The raging Toure type. Something. Sneijder's pretty much always been the RvV mould. Rarely dictates a game but is a proven match-winner. Don't think they need him.

I believe Rio's been the best British defender of his generation but this must be his last season as a starter.

just seems that Fergie banked everything on Cleverly coming good. Astonishing he hasn't addressed his cms, they're all average at best

Pogba and Morrison are both extremely highly rated, yet Pogba is refusing to sign a new deal and Morrison is a bellend who needs to grow up. So you would have thought he'd have bought somebody in the interim, even if they are going to make it and resolve any of their problems.
