He's bloody horrendous for 10million euros. Forren is better than him.

I've seen him once or twice so won't say anything except I'm not sure why someone would pay €10m for someone who is horrendous as well as having 73 games for Lyon and 17 for his national side.

I should probably have given more detail to my claim.

For about half that price I'd say you've got a fair deal. The issue with Lovern is, he struggles against quick and or strong forwards - the two most prevalent type of striker in the Premier League. In terms of his international caps I'd ask you to name me a Croatian centre-back, they aren't exactly blessed in that position.

As well as not really fitting the brief for this league, I'd argue he's not the type of centre half they need. A player in the mould of Douglas, fast, physical, able to provide cover would be better. Ideally someone to lead the back four too. Maybe it's over ambitious but a play for Lescott (I know not physical but ticks the second box) might not have been the worst idea in the world.

It is looking more and more likely that we'll spend Carroll's money on Mkhitaryan. Looks like 4-2-2-2 is on for next year, as I predicted. Coutinho as Left AM, and Mkhitaryan with Sturridge and Suarez' replacement up front.

Gerrard and Lucas at CM?

Same as the illustrious Coloccini.

True but that doesn't mean they're in the same predicament. Coloccini is smart. He knows how to play the game. He's also had a shoddy disciplinary record this season. He was sent off a few times

Liverpool should play a 4-6 formation to cater for all the sideways passing Blobfish enjoys.

They managed to pass it sideways into our net six times.

Oh and 'very sure we can adequately replace Suarez' Good luck with that.

Of course, we wouldn't be able to attract a player of his calibre and talent at our current position. On talent and ability alone, he is a top 10 player.

I think, if use the money of his sale properly and spend it on 2-3 young talented players, we'll grow as a team.

We were the 3rd highest scorers in the league last season (without Sturridge and Coutinho for half a season), and Rodgers said he wants to add 20 more league goals to the team, so I suppose the plan is to spread the goals among the team. Arsenal did that brilliantly last season after selling RVP. Mkhitaryan seems to fit the bill in that sense.

Re Coutinho: I agree. I think all the front 4 players will have the freedom to interchange, so a fixed position won't be set. It's the style Pellegrini has played throughout his entire managerial career, using Cazorla as LAM , and I can see us doing the same to Coutinho.

Fixture list is out on monday, right? I hope for once, Chelsea don't get their usual piss easy start to the season.

I think the fans of other teams haven't noticed, but Rodgers totally abandoned the possession football philosophy mid-way through the season. We switched from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 (Not Pardew's version) after signing of Sturridge and started playing counter-attacking football quite often. That doesn't of course mean, we stopped passing the ball, but our build-up plays were a lot quicker.

When we played your lot in April, I am sure MOTD showed you had more possession than us in that game  :kasper:

This. I'd be far happy with old Brentdan in charge than 'Pards'. I know that

I'd be far happier with Liverpool's squad than ours.  I know that.

Don't know about totally abandoned but certainly far more direct. I think someone like Sturridge really encourages that style.

Arsenal bid €30m for Higuaín, according to Marca.

Not the only ones, Guardian are running that story too. Also this....

@bbcsport_david

Arsenal priority a top cf. Higuain 1st choice & keen. #Afc also want 1 holding + 1 attacking mdf. No df unless any leave. Not in for Rooney.

Have those dodgy porn barons at West Ham really offered Carroll 100k week?

Well that is what the media are saying.  He obviously would prefer to join us and they are just throwing everything at him to get him join them.  Makes no sense to me when the player is obviously so reluctant.

Apparently completing signing of Nicklas Helenius in next two days, then Antonio Luna from Seville, and less likely but rumoured, Dennis Praet from Anderlecht.

They're all young(ish) and promising, which is very nice, but at the back of my mind is a big flashing alarm saying that we need to be buying in some more experienced heads rather than just potential.
