Yohan Cabaye retires

Looks pretty damn good when he plays for France like

He's had more anonymous games than brilliant games for us mind and is also prone to the odd over the top nasty tackle.

Don't know if I'd agree with that. Was consistently good the whole first season with us

I don't think he was.

He gets played out of position and thus not utilized correctly all of the time. He can't always impact a game the way we all want from an attacking perspective. But the fact remains that we're a better team (pick up more points) when he plays than when he doesn't. Frankly, nothing else should matter.

I still think his contributions are criminally underrated on here.

That's fair enough but if they are thinking that then they should buy or have already lined up a replacement. Pardew is making sounds that it will be the Carroll situation all over again.

Agree with that Alex. No excuse for not having a replacement lined up. It's not like an extra CM would go amiss in the event any Cabaye sale fell through.

Unfortunately not the way these guys think.

I'd suspect the opposite tbh.

Anita, Bigirimana, Cabaye, Tiote, Gosling, Sissoko all battling for 2 or 3 spaces. Expendable as fuck.

Anita and Tiote would be the starting pair, I guess. I don't think he sees Sissoko as a middle of the park type of player.

This leaves Bigi and Gosling in the event of an injury/loss of form or the more likely occurrence of Tiote kicking someones head off.

The daily Pardew update on Cabaye..............not that he's encouraging a big bid of course!

Alan Pardew says Newcastle United have received no formal offers for Yohan Cabaye, and he hopes that will remain the case.

The France international has been strongly linked with a return to Ligue 1 with Paris St Germain, while Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur would reportedly welcome the opportunity to keep the midfielder in England if the transfer door is opened.

Pardew has no intention of offering hope to Cabaye's suitors, though, with Newcastle reluctant to part with another star performer towards the end of a transfer window - leaving them with little time in which to land a replacement.

They are aware that interest in their prized assets could mount before deadline day, but for now they are hoping to reach 3rd September without any movement on the departure front.

Pardew told the Evening Chronicle on Cabaye and a possible late switch: "That's a worry.

"We've had that before with Andy Carroll and it was a tricky time to lose Andy when we did. We managed to overcome that. But you don't want to make it a habit.

"For me, of course I want to keep him.

"If one of the big clubs comes with a massive offer we will have to react to that.

"As it stands at the moment there have still been no offers. He remains our player and myself and the fans would love to see him stay come September 2, and still be in a black and white shirt."

Speculation

He added: "The speculation about Cabaye is right.

"He's a top player and I wouldn't expect no less. It's good for his confidence.

"He's not caused me one problem and he's worked really hard. His professionalism has been brilliant and our fans need to know that."

I'm more than happy to be called a 'Pardew Hater', just in case anybody is in any doubt, I hate him. I can't ever remember a club employee ever being as negative as this b******.

You'll comprimise the peace talks that took place yesterday with those sort of posts. It was made clear there are no Pardew haters and no Pardew lovers. We all agreed this.

I think he'll be here come the end of the transfer window.  If he does go, we wont spend any of it until January.

It might mean Pardew could be then forced into playing marv more often. Or Anita Dobson who he hates, as she showed Des up massivley in the queen vic.
