Shepherd was known for having a ferocious shot which on some occasions even carried the goalkeeper over the line as well as the ball

Probs did have a had shot and he probs once smashed a shot so hard the keep spilt it and went in...which turned to the legend of putting keepers through the net with his shot.

Brings up a brilliant image in the mind, of a keeper in a flat cap, wooly jersey, long shorts and old style boots being smashed through the net with the ball, japanese anime style.

I think on a goals per game basis it was Cole - who was never that loved

But the rest of them on that list were all great strikers

Yeah he was.

was devistated when he left...

Me too, absolutely gutted. :( Then I had a dream where he apologised to me for leaving and said he didn't really want to go, so I got over it a little.

Can you tell me please who apart from Shearer wore the number 9 for Newcastle ?

It represents something special for the nufc fans, isn't it ? (I mean the number)

Jackie Milburn

Andy Cole

Les Ferdinand

Alan Shearer

Obafemi Martins

Andy Carroll

edit: sheesh, forgot about Supermac!

He's here, he's there, he's every fucking where, Micky Quinn...Micky Quinn!

We had a few different No.9's in the 80's, as it was pre-squad numbers of course, so you just put your team in 1-11.

From that era, there was Paul Goddard as a main No.9 between 86 and 88. Imre Veradi wore the number 9 (I believe) from 81-83. And at the other end of the spectrum, once we got promoted back to the first division, any/all of George Reilly, Tony Cunningham and Billy Whitehurst probably wore the shirt!

Bizarrely enough this was the top result when I Googled it:

Since Shearer there's just been Martins and Carroll.

Carroll had the honour of wearing the Newcastle number 9 shirt and he  decided to go to Liverpool ?

What an idiot he is (or probably is) !

I'd be quite happy for Ashley to go all Shepherd and buy Berbatov tbh, he's a totally different kettle of fish to Duff, Owen et al. The absolute personification of genuine class.

Taking down the Andy Cole poster was a traumatic day indeed.

Dimitar Berbatov's agent expects to know where the striker's future lies after crunch talks with Manchester United.

So long as it's not here.

Why wouldn't you want the joint top goal scorer of the Premier League last season at Newcastle?

Heart isn't in to, can't meet his wages, he was joint top because he was with man u( and also bullied the lesser sides) and not due to being that great, is past it, wouldn't fit in, hates the French, too old, only mongs want him signed, was dropped in the CL final for Owen, etc...
