Demba Ba (now retired)

Amazing how so many people calling Ba awful failed to pick up on the fact that we were hoofing long balls at his head for the whole of the first half. He looks like he'll be a different player when you get people sliding balls through.

Pardew had his side out there today, with his signings all playing with his star striker who apparently cost more than we think.

If he's got other strengths then I'd suggest Pardew should find a way to use them.

He got the formation wrong in the first half but you know you've had a shitter when you're taken off ahead of Shola.

I think the fault was with Pardew rather than Ba. We were still playing long ball football for 45 mins.

Absolutely Pardew got the formation wrong in the first half but Ba showed little endeavour when making himself look busy should be the least we get from him imho.

Ba was awful today, and it's got to be a huge worry for us, anyone suggesting otherwise is off the reservation.

However it is early, very early, he didn't get the pre season prep you would like, so I would suspect he's a little way off match fitness right now. No need to write him off just yet, needs time.

Relax..He needs movement..No runs today so he had no other alternatives than to hit a support pass..Will be much better when he's paired with a fast and movable striker.

Let's just hope we get a fast, mobile striker to play along side him and not another slow arse like Bendtner who we've been linked with.

Wrong to write Ba off after 45 mins ffs but surely Pardew will have the need for speed up front emphasised even more so after todays first half.

It's very hard to judge a striker when he's not given good service, or there's no chances created. Lets judge him when he's in a settled team playing some form of structured football. However, we need a new striker, regardless. We can't rely on Ba to be our main goal source.

He was good at setting up other players in the preseason matches, and his statistics are better than carroll's..As long as the ball is delivered inside the opponent's box Ba is dangerous..But he needs those crossers, just as Carroll does. Without them he will not deliver.. This is his teammates'  responsibility.

Why do ESPN employ muppets like Waddle and Savage ?

Savage give Saylor a hell of a dogging for the part he played in Gervinho being sent off yet you could clearly see on the replay that Taylor had his back to what was going on and had just assumed that's what had happened.

When my free 3 months runs out it won't be getting renewed.

Looked weak as piss. Think he would have benefited from playing alongside a better striker and with the ball played on the deck.
