Sylvain Marveaux - arrested

Recommended Posts

This why we constantly struggle. We have signed a injury prone player on a massive 5 year deal. He has hardly played in 3 years, and another club pulled the plug cos they had concerns about his medical condition, why do we do this?

Guys, do you think this means Jonas or Barton will Leave.

Getting, Taylor, does that mean Jose will leave?

Getting Barnetta means...?

@nufcfans Ashley said Carroll money would be used for contracts so if these players are on 40k a week that's £20.8m gone so far. #NUFC" ???

Sylvain Marveaux is certainly a modern football player, liking his nights out, his cars, his caps (he loves caps)

Nearly spat my cornflakes out when I heard this on Radio 1 news. Thought they'd been amateurish and meant we'd signed Ba and Liverpool had signed Marveaux. This fucking club man

To be frank your board seems to be moving smartly. Lots of signings from the French league, which is a great place to look for value for money. Ba and Marveaux on frees aren't that much of a risk if the wages aren't outlandish, and there's a nice upwards potential.

Very true. It could have been easy to throw away £35m and not really strengthen your team that much. So far we have not spent that much, still selling and making some money and yet bringing younger and talented players. Some question marks over how injury prone some may be, but it looks a far better to squad to have them in than not. I'm desperate for us to sign N'Zogbia still though. I really think he improved a lot this year and I'm surprised one of the top 4 hasn't snapped him up.

I think anyone thinking we'll sign Zoggy now that we have Jonas (assuming he sticks around), Marveux, Ben Arfa, Ferguson, etc... well, it's doubtful, eh.

ATTITUDE

Again, despite his talent and ability, Marveaux could improve loads on this field. In a 4-3-3 system such as Rennes’ and in most modern tactical set-ups (In which full backs are called to play a major attacking role) defensive work is a necessity for the attacking flankers. Not only failing to notice the wing-rushes of his left-back counterpart, Marveaux has often been blamed for failing to accomplish his defensive work, whether it is an initial pressing or returns to cover the flank. As a result, great moments of solitude for the men standing behind him, such a Carlos Bocanegra, often let alone to deal with two or three opponents last season, without a hope to see his team-mate rush to his rescue.

Rennes Manager Frederic Antonetti himself admitted that Marveaux’ lack of work was acceptable as long as his attacking input remained as impressive as it was last season. Many coaches could rightfully consider some of Marveaux’ attitudes on the pitch as disrespectful to the team effort.

As a graduate of Rennes Academy having gone through the youth teams at the club, Marveaux may well be receiving too much indulgence for his ineffective defensive work. His self-confidence is high, maybe a bit too high, and the wise words of a manager able to make him question himself and his work for the team could be a massive boost to his career. He is able to do the work however, and even started his Ligue 1 career covering for injuries at left back. Little doubt he will give more in that field if a starting eleven position was to be at stake.

The most informative thing about this thread is that it tells you what time posters wake up on a Saturday morning.

What's new? Robert and Ginola were exactly the same in a 4-4-2 (for the most part), where you'd expecting them to contribute even more defensively than a wide-man in a front 3.

Was just thinking it is not something you could ever accuse Jonas of, that's all.

No chance hes on £50k a week like...

Liverpool offered him 50k a week, so if he's turned them down he'll hardly have come here for less. And he'll get a signing on fee.

Not too sure about this one. On the face of it, it looks like a good signing. However if it means ditching an attempt to get in Barnetta/Zog because we've signed a lad that's not played since November on a free, then it certainly looks like we've took a risk and done it on the cheap again.

Happy, but I still think we need to get in another midfielder.

I think it's a bit silly accumulating wages over the number of years the player is at the club and then being shocked at the figure to be honest. Every single player is on a wage of sorts, and even the lower earners are an x million pound investments that every team has to make.
