He may well get back to full fitness and play many games for us but the odds were stacked in favour of this happening before we ever signed him, for nowt. He wasn't getting a start in any case when he was fit. If the operation is a success then we'll have a very good player on our hands in a few months time who we couldn't have signed otherwise. I'm all in favour of the five year contracts but that's not the issue here imo, the issue is that we chose to pay a highly injury prone player with questionable recent history to be a member of our squad on the basis that we didn't have to pay a transfer fee.
