Fabricio Coloccini (now retired)

His injury history this season has been slightly worrying as I remember Steven Gerrard having similar problems and having to have back surgery.

Injury history? :dowie:

He has played in 29 out of 30 league games and 4 out of 5 cup games?

How much more proof do you need before you accept that he's got a 3 to 4 month injury?

I mentioned the back thing a few pages back, it's a concern for sure as that came first followed by the strains. Hamstrings in particular are much more vulnerable to injury when your back's not right.

Exactly this. You can refer to his games missed and so on but he has had a lot of fitness tests and missed training sessions. If there is a back issue, these are the warning signs, the torn muscles would be the next stage.

I am no club medic though so there is chance that he is ok, but it is something to keep an eye on, and the club should have sent him to a back specialist for a check already if doing there jobs right.

Wouldn't want to see a Gerrard which went undetected for about 5 years, missing months every season.

By all accounts Coloccini's fitness has been absolutely superb. What are we worrying about?

....until he had the back problem, he's had a couple of muscle strains in his upper legs since. The fact that he never got such strains before the back problem is a concern, that's all I'm saying.

James' mental health.

I think most people have stop worrying and come to reluctantly expect and accept it. Kind of like Gerrard's injuries, ironically enough.

Interview with him on Radio Marca tonight.

http://www.marca.com/2012/03/27/futbol/futbol_internacional/argentina/1332868309.html

Coloccini: "In Newcastle, I feel at home".

"England was shocked with what happened to Muamba. It was very hard, but thank God he is recovering" he said.

Fabricio Coloccini went on radio show, "Planet America" on Radio Marca and talked about the situation at Newcastle. The Argentina defender, who was injured in his last Premier League game, said, "I suffered a setback and I will be out of the team for 2-3 weeks. I will try to recover as best as possible to avoid getting injured again. Newcastle's main concern is the health of its players, but we always want to return as fast as possible."

"England was shocked with what happened to Muamba, it was very hard, but thank God he is recovering. Hopefully he will recover fully soon, regardless of whether he can play football again or not, "said Coloccini. Also, the Argentinian stressed that, "It took me a while to get adjusted to this country. The climate in England is difficult for all foreigners who come over to this league, but otherwise, this country is beautiful."

When asked about his intentions for the future when the time to retire comes, Fabricio Coloccini was clear. "I might retire in England, but I miss my family. If I could choose, I would return to Argentina to be with them. I have been out of my country for 13 years."

The routine at Newcastle

At this club the make our breakfast and lunch. All the players almost always eat after training sessions. It's coming up to 4 years I've been at this club. We always have two days off, the first one after a match, and the second one midweek. Here, I feel at home", said Coloccini on way of life at the English club.

The Premier League schedule is tough, but the organisation of it is very good both for the players and for the fans. It was surprised at how to understand English football when I first arrived at Newcastle", said the Argentine defender.

Marca are not the most reliable of media outlets so iam hoping its rubbish

For the sake of the team lol.

He's actually said that though. Not sure how it's bad anyway?

Yh i was just foolishly hoping that Colo wouldnt miss too much time out and still do so refuse to ackowledge he will be out for 2 or 3 weeks because it would be awful to see Williamson and Perch at the back for 2-3 weeks and i cant let myself believe it.

I am insane like that.

FABRICIO COLOCCINI could be back to lead Newcastle United in their last SIX games of the season.

That was the excellent news coming out of the Magpies’ Benton base today after the Argentine defender emerged from a hamstring scan learning he’d only suffered a Grade 1 tear.

And that means that Captain Colo may be back for the Easter Monday clash with Bolton Wanderers on April 9.

However, Alan Pardew must now make ends meet in Sunday’s home game with Liverpool and the Good Friday journey to Swansea City.

But after original fears that Coloccini could miss up to three or four weeks, the scan results proved to be a real boost for Pardew and his top six troopers.

Coloccini limped out of the 3-1 win at West Bromwich Albion with hamstring trouble meaning that Pardew had to switch his team around once again, with utility man James Perch moved to the centre of defence alongside Mike Williamson.

Although there was a mix-up between Tim Krul and Williamson, the duo grew in confidence and look set to face Liverpool on Sunday.

The Magpies have few other options ahead of one of the biggest games of the campaign.

Indeed, even rookie defender Remie Streete is out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury while James Tavernier, on loan at MK Dons, would also not be an option as he is carrying a knee injury.

Pardew has also stated that achilles victim Steven Taylor is unlikely to play again this season despite having ambitions to star in one of the final games of the term.

Annoying thing is, we have 2 games in quick succession against Swansea and Bolton over Easter.  Would be confident of winning the latter with or without him, but Liverpool and Swansea will be a nightmare.

Our game against Chelsea being postponed on the 14th April is now a blessing in disguise, as it should hopefully mean Colo is only going to miss 3 games.
