ponsaelius
I think the only way I'd ever properly like McClaren is if he sparked Pardew clean out. Hopefully there is now a building tension between the two to increase the small odds of this occurring.
WarrenBartonCentrePartin
Pardew would just push McClaren away with his head. EDIT: Just thinking back to that incident. What a fucking bellend, man.
Shak
Really didn't expect this. Hoping he can rediscover his old form, playing in less of a hoofball team would help him so hopefully McClaren is committed to that. Sadly I think that this time next year we'll be wishing we'd got rid and brought in a replacement while we had the chance.
U2
McClaren is right like, that statement Pardew put out was transparent as f***. No, no, no. It was all an elaborate scam set up by Coloccini's agent and backed by Pardew and the whole of Crystal Palace's opperational staff in order for Coloccini to be able to negotiate a contract extension on his terms. There was no interest from Palace, it was all a lie. You big deluded Geordie.

In theory if we do play less direct it should help him, but that's all it is at the moment sadly a theory.

Mick
It looks like he may not have been injured and had his head turned by Palace dangling a 3 year contract.
mrmojorisin75
Possession isn't going to make a teams defensive organisation or individuals any better. Our 2 biggest defeats last year. Was it Leicester & Soton? Wasn't the result of incessant pressure. Just woeful, woeful, defending from the team. and how was our attacking play, ball retention, passing through midfield, getting behind their defence to worry them etc. in those games oh wise one? why are you making out like it's not all linked? of i course i agree that we're littered with examples of rank bad defending and shit defenders who were badly organised, but why can't you just accept that an improved possession and passing game with real attacking intent might relieve the pressure on a defence through them not having to defend their box incessantly every fucking game? KaKa
It looks like he may not have been injured and had his head turned by Palace dangling a 3 year contract. That would be god news IMO. We need him to play pronto.
merlin
Defies belief that the club have retained Coloccini and decided to skimp on replacing him adequately - Colo's pace has definitely gone and opposition managers will play on this right throughout the season. Retaining him for a year as a STANDBY, after buying a top class replacement would have been justified...but we all know this aint going to happen... The College Dropout
You can't play deep with a CB who is poor in the air. Can't defend with a highline with a slow defender. A physically deteriorating Colo sounds a nightmare.
AyeDubbleYoo
I'm not convinced he is physically deteriorating TBH, at least not noticeably. His decline has been mainly mental, still think it's possible he can turn it round in the short term.
Unbelievable
The fact that some are saying that playing alongside a 20 year old (ha) defender who is new to this country and to this league may give Colo a new lease of life after having been obviously past his best for the past three years tells me everything I need to know about how awful this decision is. Unbelievable
What I'm saying is Mbemba will need time to settle in under the guidance of a more experienced partner who can compensate a little bit for his deficiencies and help him get to grips with the toughest, most unforgiving football league a young defender could play in. Some make it sound like he will be the rock thay Colo can latch on to give him a new lease of life.
AyeDubbleYoo
That's all correct, there's a decent possibility it might not work.

I don't think he was ever that pacey to begin with. I agree with Ian that the physical decline is exaggerated. He looks basically the same player as when he arrived and he got plenty of stick then too.

I don't think he was ever that pacey to begin with. I agree with Ian that the physical decline is exaggerated. He looks basically the same player as when he arrived and he got plenty of stick then too. But he's not though. He's that bit slower. He has to think that bit faster. His leap is that bit shorter and he hasn't compensated with other developments. The pace and strength of the league is starting to get ahead of him again and this time he lacks the tools to adapt. Some make it sound like he will be the rock thay Colo can latch on to give him a new lease of life. Its not neccesarily a case of Mbemba being the rock Coloccini can latch on to. But rather simply that Mbemba's attributes (pace, strength, aggression and a decent leap) should help to compensate for Coloccini's deficiencies in those area's and perhaps give him a better chance to focus on his game. As opposed to when he's playing next to Williamson who has all the same deficiencies as Coloccini and then some. Which leaves him having to try to cover for everything and coming up short. AyeDubbleYoo
Colo's experience should help Mbemba as well.
