My bad, I should have QA'd before posting. I think the geezer from BBC has the correct interpretation.

Always hard to tell tbh because most of the pundits don't know the rules!

It was a penalty or, played on and we scored. Either way we were robbed. Again.

On a broader note, FIFA or whatever have to do something radical about the grappling at set pieces. It's unedifying, detrimental to the sport and totally out of control.

They'll need referees to stick to the rules super tightly and to create a few weekends where there's a mental amount of pens awarded in order for it to start to reduce IMO.

Yes, it's going to be difficult to redress it. It's what happens when blind eyes get turned and problems become entrenched.

No easy solution and probably none better than the one you suggest.

VAR - first offence get's the penalty or free kick ?  It will only take about ten minutes to decide which way it goes :)

Tbf Dan Burn is one of the worst offenders at grappling at set pieces

Isn't this taking a rule that most people (rightly) think is ridiculous and making it even worse?

Of course, which is why it is likely to happen

Better yet, in a revolutionary new idea, why not just add on the full time for anyone writhing around on the pitch with an apparent injury when their team is 1 up with 90 minutes to go and let the actual medical staff decide when they come back on? Nah, too simple.

If VAR had one use extra use though, I think it should be as simple as a yellow card for anyone who is plainly kicked in the jacksie and then goes to ground clutching their face.

I stick to my perennial solution - the opponent get one free running kick to the balls of the offender.

If players are going to be made to stay off for a minute if they ask for the physio they're going to refuse to get medical attention and injuries will get worse as they don't want to give an advantage to the opposition

How's he supposed to do that Dermot?

I watched that this morning. I was surprised they glossed over it so quickly. We just need to start shoving cunts in to offside positions from now on.

Let the attention take place while the game carries on and the player is  classed as out of the game until he leaves then re enters the pitch.

All it takes is for var to look at incidents with players going down and if there's no contact or feigned injury book the bastards.

That'll stop all this falling over lark.

Hate this too. Tie is obviously done but the ref feels sorry for the team getting battered so automatically gives them all of the 50/50s and a lot of the 40/60s too. I understand it from a human point of view but it's frustrating being penalised because we're so far in front too, it's professional sport, if it ends 13-0 then so be it, you don't just favour one side because they're getting dicked in the CL
