One of the most horrifically harsh calls I can remember seeing. The yellow was harsh enough; upgrading it to a straight red was absolutely farcical. Entirely accidental and he made no action to harm his opponent. One of those where you really need to watch it at full speed to get a true sense of the incident.

Kelly's being pushed back as well [emoji38]

BBC article reckons the ref actually could have overruled the yellow card there as he'd been sent to the monitor. Would have been class if that's what he did and VAR accidentally corrected a mistake whilst asking for a red.

Wonder if the VAR room would benefit from having an impartial ex-footballer in with them? Pretty sure there's plenty wannabe pundits for instance who could have some input.

It's a big problem with the slow mo. Basically erodes most of the context of an incident like that.

I think just a bit of common sense would have seen that's not a red card, don't need to be an ex player to see that.

I don't think an ex player in there is the worst idea though but they'd have to know the laws inside out like the referees are supposed to

Don't think so. Seen it on Soccer Saturday plenty times where Mike Dean and a pundit squabble over a decision for ages and ultimate disagree on something.

Incredible work by the English officials in the Ferencvaros game.

Atwell on VAR, calls Kavanagh over to the screen to check a foul, but doesn't appear to have checked if there was offside before checking the foul.

Kavanagh’s at the screen checking the foul as Atwell starts drawing the offside lines. Turns out he was off.

99% of footballers have the intelligence of a park bench so thats a hard no from me.

Knew that hench linesman would be shite.

Actually thought it was offside before the corner that led to their first goal.

I was right in line, looked off to me and called it. Lino was behind play and got pelters from others around me. Arrogant cunt starting shaking his head at the crowd. He went a bit sheepish a few minutes later, Eddie also had a word with him.

VAR on corners is fine only if it's when a goal comes from the corner and so they go back to it. Can't be arsed with a corner taking three minutes to adjudicate beforehand.

When does the counter on throws start, guess from when someone picks up the ball?

Guess they won't have time to dry it on a towel (which should be illegal anyway), so that's a positive.

It is another burden on the referee. I'd give time keeping duties to a separate official; ideally with a game and play clock.

The rules need a major re-write for the modern age as your comment about the throw in implies. With your suggestion the team winning the throw could just amble up to the ball. I think the time starts when the ball goes out of play as long as the multi ball is working. Same goes with all dead ball starts.

Hadn't paid too much attention to the other PL games as I was too pissed off after we lost but catching up with the highlights today. That Cunha pen man, absolutely scandalous and what do you know? The ref was Chris Kavanagh, the same one who made a complete mess of our game at Villa 2 weeks ago. Here he is back again, giving a pen for something that wasn't even a foul and occurred outside the box and then its a red card to boot.

Just 2 weeks removed from not giving a pen for Digne's handball when the player never actually left the box at any point (amongst other outrageous incompetence), at it again yesterday and in no great surprise, a ridiculous decision that benefitted one of the ESL clubs.

Why is this cunt reffing again so soon? It's either Big Six bias or utter incompetence and either way he should be fucking banned for the rest of the season the stupid prick.
