I think it’d have been a red in the PL.

Was a stonewall penalty on Wissa tonight. Didn’t even seem to get checked? Very strange VAR performance to be honest.

It's one of those where the victim is the one who got there late and otherwise would be the one penalized. There was a West Ham player sent off 2-3 seasons ago, where the follow through was a lot higher than Bruno's (barely ball height) but was later rescinded by the panel the next day.

He shouldn't have even got a yellow.

Definitely a yellow, like.  I was surprised VAR didn't look at it.  Especially after the red card Dortmund got on Tuesday.  I'd argue this was 'worse' even if I don't think it was intentional or a red.

Using slow mo's and still images at the point of contact is pathetic, mind.  You can't be re-refereeing games based on that.

I’m thinking of Lewis-Skelly’s red against Wolves last season

It’s not a red of course, but PL refs are celebrities

I don’t think it’s a red but I do not understand how they didn’t give it after the Dortmund one they did give, which was not as bad as Bruno’s.

Just so inconsistent. You never know what decision you will get in those circumstances.

Thought the ref was decent last night, great that he stuck with the oncall decision for the first goal as it was nonsense it was even looked at. He seemed to let quite a bit go and that allowed the game to flow.

I can see why he gave it. Absolutely no intention of getting the ball and slammed his studs on the kids instep.

No idea why it was rescinded, tbh ;)

Wissa's was so weird, he got up really early and was first to the ball, but because the defender ended up heading it I think he got away with basically a barge. He only played the ball because he smashed Wissa out of the way first.

In the outfield it definitely would've been a foul.

Nah, he won the ball, his foot was on the ground, only reason his studs caught the lad was the follow through which was unintentional. It wasn't like he carried through with it either as soon as he got the ball his studs caught the player he couldn't avoid him.

Just read that referee Farai Hallam is making his debut in the premier League today at Man City v Wolves, was sent to the screen for a possible City penalty but decided to stick with his original decision and went against the 'experienced' referee

Not seen it but think that's class

Love it. The kind of bollocks that the others lack.

I have no problem at all with that being a red.

Reckless challenge = yellow

Cynical challenge with no attempt to play the ball = yellow

Yellow + Yellow = Red

Saw another clip of the ref for our game against PSV. Where he looks at the replay once at the monitor and seems ro mouth “waste of my time”

I mean, I doubt he did. As he isn’t English for a start. But he looked absolutely disgusted with being made to go over there, either way.

And today, is also his last day as a Premier League referee.

Watching MOTD and the city hand ball and I agree with the on field call.

The defenders arm was outstretched but it didn't hit that part of him arm. It hit the underneath the armpit area which would have been there wherever the rest of his arm might have been.

Right call and good job for standing up for himself.

I think it was Michael Brown on the Sky Sports comms. Said some daft shit like “what’s he doing with his arm up there? It’s a totally unnatural position.”

Is it fuck. I swear the increasingly grey laws around handball have warped people’s minds. Every season it seems to get more convoluted and difficult to follow with any logic or confidence behind what the right call is.

Also, is it a coincidence that a young, rookie ref, who isn’t part of the old boys network. Who actually grew a set of bollocks to basically tell the VAR team

to sod off?! I’m not sure it is, you know.

Happy to see Brighton take one in the nads but that offside call for Welbeck's non-goal is one of the more 'fun police' ones I've seen this season. So infinitesimally small a margin that I'm dubious it's even correct given the camera's frame rates.

The biggest problem with the handball law is that Howard Webb and the gang have introduced their own "Premier League interpretation" that changes/can change on a whim rather than just following the bloody laws of the game as they're actually written

So unnatural that the Man City players arm is identical to Wolves defender. Pundits talking shit as per usual, good strong decision by a newbie referee
