What fucks me off the most is how managers and players can’t call a shite refereeing performance for what it is.

They have to carefully pick their words in case PGMOL jumps to their defence, even if they had a shocker.

Look forward to seeing what DHgate Collina has to say about it on SSN next week.

I don’t believe in the corruption stuff people say in the traditional sense of the word but I totally get why people say it.  But I think it’s so incompetent that it is corrupt in the sense of it being that bad and egregious.   His linesman just as culpable as he was.   I wonder what will happen to him but you can bet very little, disgrace.

Well last night was either a demonstration of incompetence or corruption. Neither are good. For all VARs many obvious faults and mistakes, some basic decisions were at best fluffed last night. I know var doesnt make everything perfect, but it's better than watching obvious "mistakes" go past. Yes it can sometimes be wrong and is still subject to ridiculous decisions, but they are generally marginal ones...not ones where people can see instantly that the decision was clearly wrong.

It suggests that Coote is the norm, not the outlier.

Makes you wonder. I mean we now all know that the reason Coote was so bad is because he was refereeing whilst completely off his tits but was he the only one?

Don't forget, at half time, he'd be having a 5 knuckle shuffle while watching Cbeebies on his tablet

The problem with VAR is that the utterly incompetent lads today could easily be the ones sat in Stockley Park.

At present it's another layer of subjective officiating that's getting more and more scope to interfere. Decisions are still going to be at the mercy of the competency of incompetent officials.

This game had VAR and yet that red was allowed to stand. Sometimes it’s just bad refereeing.

VAR doesn't do yellows. Even if it's 2 yellows for the same player.

You absolutely do not need VAR for those decisions, like.  A vaguely competent official with open eyes would’ve made the correct calls.  You could pull any linesman and ref from a pub league match and they’d call it right.  VAR’s defenders actually have a stronger case for more difficult calls - those calls would be infamous for years at any time in the past.

just for those who think it's our officials that are the problem and that things work fine in Europe

Bizarrely enough, we were congratulating our ref for booking two Spuds players for diving.

I get that people love to blame VAR for literally everything, but saying that VAR has made the refs incompetent assumes that these mistakes didn't happen before VAR. They happened quite often, and refs were seen as incompetent back then aswell. It's short term memory.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Digne was still stood in the penalty area even after the ref blew his whistle for a free kick.

This is the bit that seems craziest to me. He obviously thought 'there's no way I can convince the ref I was outside the box so I'll have to say my arm was in a natural position' and then the ref gives the handball as a free kick outside the box. He must have been as confused as anyone.

I honestly thought the ref had just given a throw in when his arm went up. Couldn't fathom the decision at all.

Also as my Villa mate pointed out after the game, a nailed on second yellow that he's bottled because he had to send the keeper off earlier in the game.

Sorry mate - I somehow always thought we were the same age 😂

I remember that. Was young though. Was going crazy and couldn't understand it. Two equalisers ruled out for no discernable reason. He was just making stuff up. I was convinced he hated us and wanted a Brighton win.

He did shuffle off this mortal coil nearly seven years ago though, so there is that.
