He improved substantially in his final ball and shooting while he was here. Fucking class player. Cisse’s future on Tyneside has been the subject of intense speculation this month despite director of football Joe Kinnear insisting earlier this week that no-one would leave St James’ Park before next Friday’s deadline. The striker is in a difficult situation, though, having lost form and fallen down the pecking order with Magpies boss Alan Pardew continually picking Loic Remy, Yoan Gouffran and Shola Ameobi ahead of him this season. Cisse has privately maintained that he wants to stay on Tyneside and fight for his place, but Pardew is keen to sign another striker this month – most probably Borussia Monchengladbach’s Luuk de Jong – but a deal to bring him in could hinge on Newcastle’s number nine leaving. The former Freiburg striker has already knocked back opportunities to play in Qatar and India, but a move back to Germany, where he excelled before joining Newcastle, or Turkey, could appeal to the 28-year-old. As revealed in The Northern Echo last week, the possibility of a swap deal involving Cisse and De Jong has been discussed, but Besiktas and Trabzonspor are ready to offer the Senegal international a different route out of Newcastle. West Ham have also been credited with an interest. The Magpies would only sell the striker is they recouped the £9m they spent on him two years ago so a temporary deal is the most likely option should he leave this month. LRD Posted January 24, 2014 Share Posted January 24, 2014 I doubt the term 'head coach' has anything to do with Americanism and more to do with the fact that they have little say over transfers (you coach and select your line-up with the players you are given) as opposed to the traditional 'managers' like Ferguson and Wenger where other aspects of the squad and transfers have to go through the manager. Shola has a couple of basic functions that make him a better option - as fucking unbelievably depressing as that is to say - so I don't see any need to desperately hang onto Papiss, regardless of the striker shortage.
