Papiss Cissé

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't be opposed to us flogging Cisse and using the money to get a younger, and potentially better striker in, but seeing as we won't do the latter part I would have to say 'no' to the former as well.

I was just about to post exactly that point. On paper it looks like a deal we should be looking to make but reality dictates that Cisse will not be replaced and the money just goes into paying Sports Direct for the Labour and materials used in placing their signage at the ground.

I remember when Swansea were in Division 4. No contest now in terms of ambition.

They're selling their best player ffs.

They spend money though.

I don't know how anybody can deny that the owners of Swansea have shown tremendous levels of ambition over the past decade or so. They were on the verge of relegation to the conference in 2003 FFS, back when we were one of the top sides in the Premier League. Today, there is a legitimate case for them having overtaken us. There's a hell of a lot more to ambition than holding on to your best players all the time, which only a few clubs can do anyway.

There's a difference between having money and choosing to be frugal and being frugal because there simply isn't money to spend. Newcastle is the former, Swansea the latter. They have loads more ambition as a club. Bony leaving for a bigger club has been inevitable since last summer, so rather than employ the Mike Ashley method of not daring to preempt losing a player by buying another, they went out and got Gomis. Who's not as good as Bony, but at least they're not standing there with their dicks in hand while relying on some never-was or 17-year old kid to lead the line.

Why would he want to leave? can't see him getting a bigger club and he has been doing well when he has a game.

Better wages or longer contract are two obvious reasons.

Close to 30 isnt he? Practically retired in the clubs eyes

£8m for someone approaching 30 would have our accountants frothing at the gash. That's the figure I saw being mentioned and I could see us getting it.

Newcastle United transfer news: Papiss Cissé could net £22.5m in Shanghai surprise

The Newcastle United forward Papiss Cissé has been offered the chance to become one of the best-paid players in the world, earning £22.5m with Chinese side Shanghai SIPG.

Cash-rich Shanghai, managed by Sven-Goran Eriksson, have put together a three-year package worth £150,000 a week for the 29-year-old.

Cissé, currently at the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, has just 18 months left on his Newcastle contract and admitted last week that he could move to Swansea City to replace Wilfried Bony.

Rather than risk losing him for nothing, Newcastle will sell the player for around £8m. They paid German club SC Freiburg £9m for Cissé in 2011; he has scored 32 goals in 87 Premier League games.

Cissé suffered a serious injury last season when he dislocated his knee at a time when his then manager Alan Pardew had largely lost faith in a player who had initially refused to wear Wonga-branded training gear at Newcastle because of his religious faith.

However, the striker’s return this season was vital to Pardew’s job security, as he scored four goals in key games to keep him in charge at St James’ Park until his departure for Crystal Palace last month.

Cissé is on wages of around £30,000 a week but if the offer of a move to China proves tempting he can expect to bank around £7.5m a year.

Eriksson moved to Shanghai in November and could himself earn as much as £15m. The former England manager was previously in charge of another Chinese club, Guangzhou R&F.

Cisse has played 'within himself' for a long time now. Right time to sell him.. despite EVERYTHING ELSE going at the club. Unless of course we're planning on appointing a new manager any time soon - somebody who knows how to use and motivate a limited goal poacher..
