Psychological victory I reckon and an important one - hopefully it will stand us in good stead for future games aye.

 What the fuck's he going on about, we were all over them.  Gobshite.

Never seen a more one sided second half , since they were last here. it would have made no difference if sessengone had stayed on pitch.

actually I don't think the 5-1 was as one sided as that 2nd half was

did they come in our half in the second half? looked like krul was playing cm half the time

Wonderful moment when he picked the ball up at the way line and before he'd even touched it the whole ground shouted for him to shoot. Brought a big smile to my face despite the fact we were still 1-0 down at that point.

I think if Sessegnon had stayed on the pitch then they'd have maybe had about 2 or 3 breaks in the last half hour, the sending off didn't necessarily make it much easier for us as they abandoned all attacking intent and concentrated solely on defending.

I actually spoke to one of their better lot today and had a canny craic with him. The jist of it this: He was in his late 40s and said he enjoyed the game from the comforts of the bar. He doesnt go to games now and hasnt done so since the 15 point season. He loves the rivalry during the match but is becoming pretty p*ssed off with thuggish ways of the derby and laughed at how childish and stupid the whole FTM thing is, 2-1, and for us the 5-1 stuff. He says it used to be all about the football but now the rivalry is more sinister and mostly not about the footy now. He said his club has lost a lot of older fans and is now infested with young charvers who abuse everyone and generally cast dark clouds over the club. They have no respect for anything and put all their energy into hating us lot. As a result he no longer likes going to the games.

I actually agree with him on the whole FTM, 2-1, or 5-1 stuff in our case. To see grown men boo someone in the street for wearing a mackem top or a toon top is stupid but thats what the rivalry has become these days, bitter, heated and very sinister. More so from their end and I'm not saying that because I'm biased.

I think a bit like Pardew's comment about us sinking to their level after Cattermole had been instructed to try and break a leg in the first minute, maybe as fans we sink to their level of abuse on occasions too. However I've always seen the respective rivalry as being quite different, theirs is a bitter hatred which seems fuelled by a feeling of inferiority and a huge chip on the shoulder about all things Newcastle, ours is a kind of piss taking thing about all things Sunderland which comes from a feeling of birthright and footballing superiority.

It's not quite as pronounced as the Boro thing where they hate us but we're hardly bothered about them, but it does seem nowadays that the macums have a bitter hatred while we just, well we just laugh at them really.

Back in the bad old days when there was much more of a raw edge about it and police escorts and even segregation were not used, Sunderland were nothing really and we did and went as we pleased down there. They have become a lot more hostile since the internet and all ticket segregation etc arrived.

Boro were always a different kettle of fish and you had to be a lot more careful down there.

Angry Mackem Gary

Bin Dipper Antony

Angry Mackem Gary

Bin Dipper Antony

Cattermole or The Ref???

Angry Mackem Gary

cattermole. good player but an arse

Mag Kernt Ash

Hahahahaha oh my God I was expecting a little gay comment like that from you. You must not know the offside rule. Ameobi was onside, Ba was the one offside who wernt even interferin in play! Looks like you have to wait ANOTHER year to try beat us!! Your just a sad mackem bastard! SMB!!

Wearside Paul

Gary...agree. Great performance and then stupidity. Some captain!

Angry Mackem Gary

fuck off ash, you were lucky to scab a draw at home. against 10 men. i know who the happier fans are this afternoon, and they all look like barcodes and grunt

Wearside Paul

Gary, they are a 'big club' remember....

Angry Mackem Gary

yeah, i forgot they're the bestest team in the world ever

Wearside Paul

Exactly!

Angry Mackem Gary

even tho they never win fuck all

Mag Kernt Ash

Fuck off Gary daft cunt. Your so deluded its unreal. You got every 50/50 decision your way. What about the stone wall handball miles in the air when Ba climbed for the header? Think it was O Shea. Absolute joke man. You got schooled 2nd half. Not even gonna bother with you man. You quite clearly have no idea when it comes to football. Stick to star wars or sumat man you sad mackem bastard.

Angry Mackem Gary

yeah yeah ash, whatever. i agree it was a handball, we got lucky. but so did you as simpson should have got a red card as well as sessegnon. you were better in the second half but we were in the first so it evens out. schooled? i think not. that would indicate you murdered us like you did last year. you didn't, you were lucky to get a draw.

Great post. Although I must admit that I really do find myself hating the mackems after yesterday- quite bitter towards them, in fact.

I cannot remember much of the game in all honesty, but where's all of this cheating stuff coming from?

EDIT: Are they trying tos that WASN'T a red?

It was a red BUT Tiote made a meal of it trying to get Saucisson sent off for committing what they admit was a red card offence.

@HTT and Benwell Lad:

I got quite a bit of (friendly) abuse today at work for the bad match both sides played. They all support other teams than Newcastle or Sunderland and were moaning quite a lot about the low quality of football and how the focus seems on putting nasty tackles in. I personally like a bit of tempers flying, in limits of course and kept on the pitch. It makes it exciting, shows that the players care and makes the derby a bit more special than every other weekend.

It made me quite happy though at the same time, when one bloke said that it was good to see Newcastle getting over it at half time and actually playing football 2nd half. They agreed that we deserved the draw purely on that, because Sunderland was still trying to disrupt and cause a fuss.

Deserved a draw?

The first half was awful, their game plan was to upset us by playing dirty, it worked and we sank to their level. Overall though it was pretty even, two good chances for us, one for them and a penalty out of nothing but they did have a 20 minute spell in charge. Second half we murdered them.

Funniest thing today was hearing their scruffy manager saying if they'd held on it would have been a deserved win. Is he an idiot ?

Even if he didn't see it with his own two eyes he'd only have had to look at our glaring statistical superiority to realise they did not deserve to win.

The amount of crap I've heard from mackems today is crazy, like. Apparantly we were lucky, the ref was one of us and they were the best team. They say history is rewrote by the victors, so why are they trying it?

When you have your arse handed to you over and over again, a tiny respite from it must feel nice, i think its called clutching at very small straws.

what you have to remember about sunderland fans are that they are mildly psychopathic in that they can convince themselves of anything. had tiote done that tackle in the first minute it would've been ,to them, a straight red, because it was clattertwat it was just a robust derby day tackle. you have to play the game with them, anonomise it then let them know it was them after they've condemned the incident.

To be honest, I have some mackem 'mates' that were in the away end and the thought of them being happy yesterday disgusted me. Had a giggle when I imagined how gutted they'd feel after The Big Sho. I guess that's what derbies do to you.

Nah, you got me wrong there. We deserved the draw alone for the fact that our players got over the nasty hate stuff and focused on beating them at football. I think they all agreed that we outplayed them in the second half and could have just as easy won the match.
