I think it means Everton are now in the Europa League. Sure I read England gets an extra Europa League spot.........................

Yes, mate. They get it from us. A pretty interesting loophole that if a team wins the CL and finishes outside the CL spots of their league, any teams in that league beginning with N and end with D are banished from Europe. Bad luck on us, but thems the rules.

Higher co-efficient because of Chelsea's win? :troll:

Yes - that places NUFC above Young Boys.

However, Sporting Lisbon lost the Portuguese Cup Final today, so they will start in QR4 but with a higher coefficient than NUFC, so cancels out the gain.

Again to stress the point - for QR4 any of the top half of the coefficient list (the 'seeds'), can be drawn against any of the bottom half. The only thing that matters is being above the midpoint in the list.

On reaching the group stage there are 4 pots of 12 clubs. A club in Pot 3 would face 2 clubs with higher coefficients and 1 with a lower one. A club in Pot 4 would meet 3 with higher coefficients (and only 2 clubs qualify). But of course the coefficient is only a number! Tottenham are of the same standard, but their coefficient is about 4 times that of NUFC.

And in the Champions' League, Chelsea, ManUnited and Arsenal are all in Pot 1, but champions ManCity are in Pot 2 because of their limited European history over the last 5 seasons. Incidentally the champions of Spain, England, Italy and Germany are all in separate pots, and so in theory could be drawn together!

Last season the playoff draw was split into mini-groups (possibly by seeding) for some reason wasn't it? Has this been sacked off?

No, it will be the same. There will (probably) be 5 sets of 5 seeds and 5 non-seeds, with an extra set for a further 6 of each. These will be announced a few hours before the draw. So it could be that seeds 4, 9, 16, 23 and 28 are placed with unseeded 35, 40, 47, 54 and 59. But the sets are arranged so that no more than one club from any country is in any set, so guessing the sets between the finish of the previous round late the previous evening and about 9am on the day of the draw is difficult verging on impossible.

By arranging these sets the draw is done once and applied to all the sets of the same size. Otherwise it would be far, far longer and even more tedious than it already is [it will be live on uefa.com and maybe SSN or ESPN].

Napoli's win means we can no longer get them in Play-Off round.

True - but it confirms Lazio starting in QR4, so it doesn't improve NUFC's standing in the coefficient list.

I've heard that ESPN are covering this next season  :anguish:

No way am I coughing up for that. Never thought I'd hope to be on ITV4.

Split between ITV and ESPN.

ITV get first dibs.

As far as I can gather from that Bert Kassies site we should be seeded for the qualifying round but look likely to be in the bottom pot if we make the group stage:

http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/seedel2012.html

But if any of these clubs lose in Champions' League Q3 they will cross to EL and push NUFC down the list:

Basel, Anderlecht, Celtic, BATE Borisov, Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Cluj, Dinamo Kiev, Panathinaikos, Fenerbahce, Brugge, Kobenhavn.

So it is far from certain for a while yet.

Imagine how gutted we would be if we were desperate for a nice european away game for the playoff and we end up getting Hearts or Motherwell
