Just read the BBC article about this deal. One of the comments:

I just cant see why newcastle have purchased this player. They should have offered Simpson an improved contract. We should offer him at least £35000 a week. He is the one player we cannot afford to lose. On his day he is one of the best players in the premiership. I hope we lose Ba in january as it would give Ambeobi a run in the team. If Ambeobi is in the team from January he would hit 15 goals

HTT is right to a degree but he can't possibly be any worse than what Simpson has been recently.

Simpson was awful the other night along with our entire back-four to be honest but in general has had an OK season and since he signed has generally done just enough to be classed as semi-competent at this level which may not be ideal but he's done a job there basically. I wouldn't be so confident as others seem to be that this new lad will simply come in and be a huge upgrade. On quality alone he is an upgrade but things are not as simple as that. We've seen too many good players sign for us only to struggle or flop for whatever reason. Oh, and we can ill afford to actually lose Simpson. I'd rather we spent 6m Euros or whatever it is on a striker to be honest.

I don't have anything against Simpson, he's one of those players who genuinely loves being a Newcastle player. But we've outgrown him, similar to how we've outgrown Jonas IMO. He's not worth handing a big contract, but he'll be handy for the last 6 months of his deal which will give Debuchy time to settle in.

I've heard from a reliable source that the deal has hit a major problem.

Sunderland won't pay for his flight over here.

Why would Sunderland pay for his flight? You're confusing us.
