Sifu
Silly question: whilst a win virtually means we're safe, how does it confirm safety?
Wullie
Silly question: whilst a win virtually means we're safe, how does it confirm safety? Cos there's no way Wigan and Villa can both get to 41 points as they have to play each other.

Stuy_O
As Wigan could only climb above Villa.

aussiemag
Silly question: whilst a win virtually means we're safe, how does it confirm safety? If we win we are on 41 points. Even if Wigan beat Arsenal they go to 38 points, with one game to play. Aston Villa are on 40. A draw or Aston Villa win, Wigan go down. Wigan win, Villa go down. This is not even taking into account Sunderland and Norwich.
Hanshithispantz
Ah, thanks for that lads. Both Villa and Wigan cannot finish the season on 41 points.
Neil
I think the answer involves Aston Villa and Wigan and in particular, the fixture on the last day between said establishments.
Mick
As daft as it sounds, I think we'll win 1-2 for some reason.

Rich
Agreed. I think a point would see us safe as I can't see Wigan getting anything at Arsenal.

aussiemag
Is there a reason why when we play Arsenal, mackems play Tottenham. When we play Man Utd, they play Man City. Etc.
Oakie Doke
better yet, let's throw the game and lull the others into a false sense of security.
Wullie
Is there a reason why when we play Arsenal, mackems play Tottenham. When we play Man Utd, they play Man City. Etc. Just makes logistical sense, they always have to make sure (for policing reasons) local rivals aren't at home on the same weekend so it's easier to kill two birds with one stone. BlueStar
better yet, let's throw the game and lull the others into a false sense of security. Relying on other teams beating rivals for us rather than getting points ourselves has worked so far, why mess with a winning formula.
joeyt
Imagine a win and being able to relax whilst watching other teams play
