Sunderland

He's been a total non entity as a professional footballer. Literally made a living out of not quite being good enough so playing the dependable understudy. Fitting that he'll end his time at Sunderland.

My mate whos round was Darras Hall when he worked for the Royal Mail always said you couldn't meet a more rude, ignorant person than Steve Harper and used to hate having to get him to sign for parcels. As a side note he loved delivering to James Milner who used to order a ridiculous amount of porn but was a top bloke!

Ffs why shouldn't he sign for them? Good luck to him, he seems a good lad, he's hardly left us at the height of his career and gone straight there. If he's in goal when they play us I for one will warmly applaud him.

He had a good right to be angry most of the parcels were blankets for keeping warm on the bench.

Why not go the whole hog, run on the pitch and suck him off every time he saves one of our shots as well? With your support he might just put on a performance of a lifetime to help his new club to 3 valuable points in a crucial relegation match.

The old St James' crowd would have made it so hostile for him he would have had a stinker and sh*t himself every time the ball came into the penalty area. I remember their keeper, Tim Carter putting 4 or 5 goal kicks in a row straight out for throw ins because of the stick he got up here in the early 90's. We had a proper home crowd back then though, not a loaf of spineless happy clappers.

I'm surprised Harper wasn't a sunderland fan since he's from Easington.

Remember him once saying his family was split 50/50 us/them but he was black and white. If he plays against us lets just hope he does the goalkeeping equivalent of what Chopra did.

People actually getting upset about this ffs  get a grip man.

This.

He was only here for well over a decade and a good servant to the club. But aye he's signed for Sunderland so we should give him nothing but dogs abuse and cry about him doing what is right for his profession  grown adults ffs.

And this.

Why is your mate going through people's mail like?

Aye, this too! FFS!!!

Think we can work out by association who the sneaky untrustworthy bastard in this equation really is, aye?!

The same hostile St James' crowd that clapped David Kelly on the field as a Mackem in the derby one year?

Milner knew my mate well and it turned into a bit of a running joke with them. Secondly he wasn't a good servant to us. He made £millions sitting on the bench doing nowt other than training 3 hours a day. Shearer was a good servant, Rob Lee, Pavel etc. They earned what the club paid them. Harper made £millions from sitting on a bench watching better goalkeepers than him perform because he didn't fancy moving away and playing first team football somewhere.

Could care less. He wants to be close to home its an easy gig. He is hardly at him prime and we are losing out.

Plus if he gets thrown into the Derby we know we have a 13th man.

You could?

The reaction by some to Harper signing for the mackems is way OTT.  He's 40 years old so isn't going to do any more than fill in if required.  We've had some reasonable players from them such as Paul Bracewell, Barry Venison and Shay Given who didn't get much stick, if any.  Why is Harper being criticised?

Can't believe anyone would be so ignorant as to compare the two. David Kelly was a legend. He scored the most important goal in the modern day history for Newcastle United. We were staring into the abyss before his goal against Portsmouth and those of us lucky to be there that day will never forget it. Certainly I've never celebrated, or seen celebrations like there were that day. He could do what he wanted after that. Comparing him to someone who sat on our bench for the best part of 20 years and taking £millions for doing so man  :yao:

Can't see why this is stirring up such an outrage either.

He's out of contract and in the twilight of his career. Why would he say no when Sunderland comes and offers a (probably) final paycheck?

What does that have to do with anything?

The whole thing is stupid man. Let him get on with his life he served his purpose here, and now is being paid to fill a gap for 5 months commuting from home.

Yes. I'm surprised people care at all. I couldn't care less about Harper going to Sunderland to be honest.
