Aston Villa 1 - 2 Newcastle United - 14/09/13 - post-match reaction from page 33

Cabaye didn't do much. He's eminently replaceable in the team. We need someone with more mobility in there because Anita does a fine job of recycling the ball, Sissoko is a powerhouse and our best CM but some more mobility would mean that we could control more of games.

Cabaye worked his socks off for me, He wasn't involved too much in the actual build up play but we were pretty direct today and got the ball forward quickly to try and exploit space in behind villa.

bar Krul, I've got no complaints about any of our lads yesterday they all put in a shift and Krul can be forgiven he's one of the best keepers in the league.

Cisse 6 looks lacking confidence

A deserved win - much better movement from the players and they seem fitter now.

HBA was star of the show, really taking their defence apart at times ; to their credit, Villa rarely resorted to fouling him but there is no doubt that some of the top teams WILL do so if he causes them similar problems, because they know they can get away with it...look at what happened at Man City with de Jong...

Debuchy much better today but he wasn't subject to too much pace and that is what undoes him..Sissoko and Remy also did well, the latter giving us some danger down the left to match HBA on the other side. Wonder about Remy's fitness over the medium term though, and we are stuffed if HBA gets injured because Cisse is doing nothing - looks like a striker whose confidence is shot to pieces and we are going to rue the fact that the club failed to get a decent forward in the summer.

Colo and MYM were good at the back apart from losing Benteke for their goal as was Santon who did not have to come forward as much because Remy was attacking that side.

A win that was encouraging in that the players looked up for it and moved far more fluently off the ball....now vital to get a win against Hull because tougher tests lie ahead.

Sissoko was marking Benteke and totally lost him after some great movement by Benteke.

Cabaye does bring the threat of goals from midfield which  is fairly valuable for us

We also always seem to press higher up the pitch when Cabaye is playing. His pressing and defending generally is imo underrated due to the silly Paul Scholes tackles.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching that game.  What a pleasant surprise.  Krul distributed well to the back line, the club was patient and played the ball on the carpet until they felt there was a good chance to strike.  When Cisse gets his confidence back, this can be a very incisive offensive club.  HBA was fabulous but Remy's pace on the other side was important, too.  Speed kills and I think Pardew demonstrated that he understood that when he subbed Gouffran and Sammy in.  I also thought Tiote's subbing added a more physical presence when it was needed.  The back four played very well as a unit and individually and, if not for Krul's bad read, we would have had another clean sheet.

That was fun to watch.

Maybe so - but Benteke is one of their main central forwards so it should have been one of the CDs marking him..

why ? it's often not the case, quite often you see forwards marking forwards from set pieces.

They'd have already decided who was marking who, you can hardly blame the centre halves for sissoko losing him.

Maybe they put Sissoko on him because he is taller?

There could have also been some confusion with Villa putting on a 4th striker during the corner..

I always thought Benteke was going to get one against us, but it was a shame to concede it like that.
