The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Vitor Pereira to Wolves

Not particularly enthused by them appointing a bona fide survival specialist; in fact I'd go as far as to say that they're now favourites for 17th at this precise moment, though that could change depending on our activity in the transfer market this week.

We really need to hope Brentford and Leeds get dragged into this fight. Everton present an opportunity for points in the immediate-term but they'll definitely pull away; they've far too much quality and are primed for a new manager bounce a la Villa.

I don’t think he was a survival specialist at Palace as they consistently spent more on transfers than the majority of clubs in the bottom half.

Sam Allardyce was a survival specialist and WBA got relegated. I wouldnt worry too much about it as football in this country at the highest level has clearly changed and some managers with certain reputations have ideas that just aren't effective anymore

They are still very much in the thick of it and it's still very much a gamble.

Yep. It was a really impressive team effort built around exceptional circumstances.

Players like Wes Morgan and Danny Simpson won the league, doesn’t mean they are any good. Same with Ranieri.

Yes is might have been a massive fluke, but at the end of the day over 38 games they got more points than anyone else, so fully deserved.

They actually played fantastic football as well, that was always my issue with those who argued it was Nigel Pearson who should get the credit.

That's why people are bothered. Watford becoming average keeps them up. Hodgson's never been relegated and has experience with keeping teams up, he's been there and done it. Watford are nowhere near doomed in terms of the quality they have, so this is a very sensible appointment from them for once.

I can see your point. Conversely Ranieri won the PL a few years back and he couldn't do anything with them. Watford are a bit of a poisoned chalice and I just cant see Hodgson doing any better.

Was wondering what was going on with this. Have to say, looking at his CV I am not impressed at all by him. Can see them being in big trouble, just hope we start his reign off by trouncing them.

He’s Moshiri’s unofficial advisor on footballing matters apparently.

Could actually take them down.

I’ve seen lots of the ‘Hodgson has never relegated anyone’ patter floating about - which seems to suppose that the stain of relegation only applies to the person in charge on the last day of the season.  Footballing musical chairs.

Hodgson’s piss poor performance and signings was a key factor in Blackburn being relegated in ‘99 - but he did get sacked just before Xmas with them right in the shite, so apparently his hands are clean.

Everton are doing their best to implode - that’s a bizarre appointment if it happens.  Looking like a great idea, not getting behind Rafa.  Everton are the 2020s Leeds - looking increasingly like they might  really ‘do a Leeds’ at present.

Would they be the biggest surprise drop since we did 08/09?

Biggest surprise drop since the PL breakaway - probably since Man Utd in the ‘70s.  Everton hasn’t been relegated in over 70 years.
