It's funny but I don't think it's that mad for the same reasons the Hodgson situation isn't mad. You'll have a serious job on prising a coveted manager away from a job at this stage of the season; meanwhile the pool of unattached and appropriate managers is basically empty. So it's one of those rare situations where 'knowing the club' probably does count for something.

Be delicious if he turned them down but of course he won't; he's landed on his feet here. Another totally unjustified opportunity to get back on the shop window.

I can smell the msm headlines in 3 weeks right now.

Frank Not At Fault,  Chelsea players again let frank down………

Feels like a clueless American decision made by someone who doesn't really know much about football and is taking a blind punt bringing a former fans favourite onboard to get them onside. Feels very Mike Ashley.

Mike Ashley famous for being American of course.

Until the end of the season it makes sense for the reasons you mention. Could give a much needed boost, The issue (for them) is if he does well though as he clearly should not be a permanent option and the only reason for hiring him would be the chance it gives a short term boost, is if they can't handle the heat an initial good run would bring with regards to public pressure. "He's earned a chance" et al. His qualifications aren't good enough, he's earned shit, a good run of form means nothing long term.

Would be very fun if the new manager boost he'd (likely) bring managed to get him the job long term though
