Townsend's in a weird spot at Palace now, with De Boer going with a 3-4-3/3-4-2-1 and wing-backs.

He's going to start the season at right wing-back, which is a position he's probably not delighted to be playing because he'll have no chance there from an England perspective.

With Zaha and Benteke automatic choices he's effectively got that position or the other one behind the front man to go for, but Puncheon and Lokilo are relatively stiff competition for him there.

I still rate him and think he'd complete that three very nicely, offering a different threat with his long-range shooting, but he's obviously far from settled.

Not even in the team, Joel Ward preferred to him...

Mark Hughes is pessimistic about his chances of landing Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph in this transfer window... but isn't giving up the ghost entirely.

Delph is believed to favour a loan move to keep his long-term options open, but Stoke would prefer to sign him permanently and keep their loan options open.

A loan sounds right up our street
