Pilko
Rewind to December 2010... We all knew it would be Pardew but there was talk of Jol at points. This is the same thing... relatively exciting name thrown in but we all know it'll be Schteeve.
ilikenewcastle
So fuckin ridiculous. McClaren is a fuckin failure. Derby do better with Clement too. I guess the only criteria was cheap. Not sticking up for McClaren because I don't want him here, but for the last couple of weeks people have been constantly telling me Clement and Vieira are much better than McClaren. HOW DOES ANYONE KNOW? OK they might be better, but they might be a million times worse.

This is the same thing... relatively exciting name thrown in but we all know it'll be Schteeve. It's also kind of depressing that the club's idea of "relatively exciting" is Martin Jol circa 2010 (probably past it) and Patrick Vieira circa 2015 (never managed)
TRon
Maybe we really were interested in Vieira but thought because he's inexperienced he'll jump at a chance to manage a big club without having control over signings? In reality it's likely that Vieira would be interested in the job, but not if the job refers to the Ashley blowjob perfected by Pardew and Carver which MCClaren would happily kneel down for. Pilko
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/11642262/Newcastle-United-eye-Patrick-Vieira-and-Steve-McClaren.html So basically Vieira wants control of transfers and McClaren is carr's mate = Basically. http://i62.tinypic.com/2ikv19x.png This is fucking amazing work

To be honest, it's probably a bit unfair to McClaren that we've already labeled him as a sycophant on Pardew and Carver's level when he's already turned down the job once

So essentially a bit of hope
FinnMag
If we look any positives about McClaren, he is like Mourinho compared to walking disaster called John Carver
Guest ElCid
I don't really understand what's to gain PR wise from stories bout Vieira. Surely fans are gonna be more annoyed and less likely to back McClaren, knowing the club chose the cheap crap option I know it's not you who said it but for the people who are thinking it 'smoke screen' - smoke screen my arse is it - if Carver or McLaren are getting the job they will; and actually putting a 'smoke screen' out actually increases the pressure on them if one of the two are appointed. Ronaldo
He's a definite improvement on Pardew.
STM
Anyone who thinks our club is smart enough to use a smoke-screen which has no value whatsoever needs their heads checking. It's far more likely that they are just too incompetent to get a good manager with half a brain to join us.

Yeah that's what I mean I don't understand the smokescreen/PR theory it makes no sense. The the clubs PR is a fuckin joke anyway

gdm
He's a definite improvement on Pardew. Maybe I think even pardew would have got Derby promoted mind
Vinny Green Balls
Still won't be extremely surprised if this speculation haunts us all summer, and then Carver is Hughtoned into the job by default. I suspect it won't happen, but this club is so adept at doing the most odious, destructive things that I wouldn't put it past them.
ilikenewcastle
He's a definite improvement on Pardew. Maybe I think even pardew would have got Derby promoted mind As I've said, McClaren is severely underwhelming, but he gets a lot of unfair stick on here. Derby were nowhere near promotion when McClaren took over. He has had some genuine success in his career.
Unbelievable
People are going on in here as if the club haven't made arses of themselves before in the PR department, raising hopes by planting stories about transfer activity, ambitious appointments and future investment than through incompetence or neglect (you choose) making the worst decision time after time after time. This is what Mike Ashley practically specialises in, and after 8 years some people have still not cottoned on to it
Dave
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3106322/Newcastle-managerial-candidate-Steve-McClaren-set-outline-club-s-future-race-vacant-hotseat-continues.html However, sources close to Vieira, while confirming Newcastle's interest, have suggested that the club will have to sell themselves to the 38-year-old as much as he does to them and, as of Monday night, no date had been set for their proposed meeting. Indeed, Sportsmail understands Vieira is also attracting interest from elsewhere, including a new deal at Manchester City, where he is currently head of their elite development squad. No shit. oldtype
Back in the good 'ol Pardew days I probably would have bit your hand off if offered McClaren. Things should be no different now that the alternative is Carver.

ExiledGeordie
No fucking chance this is happening, it'll take too much of a sea change in policy. It's McClaren all the way for Ashley.
steve_69
I can see Viera being brilliant tbh. He was a beast of a player with unbelievable leadership ability and he'll command the respect of our players, no doubt. He's also played under managers who played great football both at club and international level so he won't be peddling shit hoofball like the last two bellends. It is a massive gamble but i reckon it's well worth taking. No doubt Charnley, Ashley and co. will royally fuck it up.
midds
The club needs Vieira or Garde. The club will get McClaren or Carver.
ads
I'd be delighted with Vieira as an unknown quantity but wouldn't be against McClaren to be fair. Inspiring? No Better than Carver and Pardew? Definitely
