Weren't Blackburn canny under him? Doing very impressive job turning Stoke into a footballing side anarl.

Is he responsible for their recruitment?

Hughes has got a decent eye for a player to be fair. Brought Zabaleta and Kompany to City, signed Dembele when he was at Fulham too iirc.

He also bought a cataclysmic amount of shite for City and QPR. Done well at Stoke though.

Zabaleta was an Argentine international and Kompany was one of the highest rated young centre backs in the world at the time.

No chance he would do anything when his midfield options are Colback, Anita and Tiote though, he's a run if the mill manager not far removed from Pardew or McClaren.

Doubt there is a manager out there who could fashion anything out of that trifecta of spunk tbf.

Any Manager with quality players in key positions always look better than they actually are.  A good manger is one that can inspire average players to play above themselves week in week out.  So we're fucked.

Tbf I didn't really follow Garde's career before we were linked with him and didn't really get the hype about him but it is IMO unfair to put too much blame on a manager that hasn't got a pre season with a team to really put his stamp on the team

Villa fans over at VillaTalk reckon Garde is a negative coward.

Haven't seen them play, they've earned as many points with Garde in 9 matches as Sherwood did in 10.

Not much difference and certainly no new manager bounce whatsoever.

if the owner isn't interested and their transfer policy just looks for bargains it doesn't really matter who their manager is. very similar to our club

There was talk of him being 'pragmatic' (boring) when everyone was spunking over him in the summer.

I would much rather have tried something new and seen it fail, than watch something destined to fail.

We're improved under Garde, and I understand how he has played for draws in a few recent matches, but I do think he was negative today.

People are basically lashing out at anyone. You think your season is bad, look at our current points tally. It's like the last days of Vietnam down here.

Was he? Possibly at one stage, but he only signed for £6-7 mill or so, a relatively modest fee for what was supposedly one of the most promising centre backs in the world at the time.

The fact that Zabaleta was an Argentine international doesn't automatically make him some obvious buy either - Jonas was an international when we signed him and only a handful on here had any idea of how good he was iirc.

Not denying that Hughes signed plenty of dross at Man City and QPR when given what was effectively financial carte blanche in either case, but on a budget he's a pretty shrewd operator I'd say.

Wright inexplicably started talking about Berahino being sound and loving his mother, think Lineker quipped that Ozil wasn't only a player of the season contender but that he also loved his mother. Was a real comic highlight.
