Jonjo Shelvey (now playing for Çaykur Rizespor, on loan from Nottingham Forest)

Sounds like a great debut.

made easy by comparison with previous midfielders. We were wanking over 10yd forward passes to unmarked players just because we hadn't seen that since cabaye. That driven pass to janmaat was sweet mind.

Stonking debut. Completely changed our side. The missing link. Controlled play and opened things up. Can't be underestimate how much he helped improve the team. Less pressure on gini and Moussa to create and Gave them more space. He even made colback look good imo.

Played some great balls in behind and into feet on the edge of the box too. It was a really good debut, he's exactly what we needed.

Sounds like a good 5/7 debut. Hopefully he can keep it up for the rest of the season.

I can see him being treat similar to Ben Arfa/Robert by some fans once he's settled like, in the way that he'll be shot down and we'll get massive groans when one of those 60 yard balls goes into the crowd 10 yards behind Janmaat, etc. He's not going to do that every game but it'll be worth it in the long run seeing the benefit of his type of play.

Great point, he'll really help other players with his own play.

Perhaps, but I see him as closer to a Nobby style player; occasional ambitious misses but outweighed by a perceptiveness and technique which was like witchcraft.

Match reports in the papers seem to be making a big deal over that shoulder barge on Valencia. Really didn't see much of a problem with it at the time. Is there genuinely a case for a retrospective ban?

Of course they are. Ruins the narrative of us going down if we are playing well and picking up points.

Absolutely nowt in it. Like McClaren said, it's handbags. Can't be banned for it surely. Barely a yellow.

Referee was looking straight at it so I don't think they could do anything anyway, even if it was deemed ban worthy (which it wasn't!).
