Mazzy
He's not going to be starring too many leage games next season you'd hope. Keeping players like him and Schar will give decent squad depth and allow us to compete in Cup competitions.
sushimonster85
People angry at Shelvey getting an extension? I don't really get it, so long as he is a squad player I am happy for him to still be around next year.
Nine
Hes been one of most consistent performers under Howe, personally I dont take into account in how he played under the fucking useless Bruce so for me hes well on his way to earning a new contract Edited February 21, 2022 by Nine
St1pe
I don’t hate him getting an extension. That’s assuming we buy someone who can also play in that position. We need a proper holding player or one that can perform a similar role to him.

Sima
Hasn't he still got two years left? I'd hope in two years time (if we stay up) that we're at a level where he gets nowhere near the first XI.

Holloway
His contribution the other day wasn't that remarkable, there weren't many key incidents he came out on top of,and he didn't deliver much in forward passing. Once Bruno gets the shout,if he's as good as he looks there's no way back into that midfield 3,bar injuries
The Prophet
As long as it's short term, it makes sense. We need a squad, if Longstaff and Hayden leave, we're down to the bare bones. Edited February 21, 2022 by The Prophet
STM
We need 6 central midfielders if we are to play 433. Joelinton Willock Bruno Shelvey X2 new signings Makes sense to me. Even with an oil well, we won't be signing 11 players. Besides which, we could still sell him if the correct fee comes in.

Yorkie
Wouldn't let Shelvey anywhere near a pen despite his recent form. We all know how it goes with him.
The Butcher
New deal ffs. Schar and Dummett as well. Fuck me.
Chizzletooth
Think some people are so scarred from the Ashley era that the concept of a "Squad" has been lost. Some of your non favourite players will be hanging around for a few windows yet, best make peace with it.
The Butcher
Eh? We had to leave out a few players due to our squad being too big. We have so much dross on long deals already, man. Giving Dummett a new deal. Jesus. Edited February 21, 2022 by The Butcher
Dr Venkman
Aye you've got to hope that Dummett bit is bollocks. Arguments can be made for Shelvey, but not for him.
Rafalove
If he can keep up his current form then Fine. I would question whether or not he has the mentality too maintain what he’s doing.
Thiago
I think Shelvey gets hate because he's never been what we've needed him to be. When your formative years are spent watching Rob Lee, Gary Speed, and players that are leaders in midfield he's not going to compare well. He's a very gifted technical player. If you can get the ball to run through him then chances are you'll see some quality, but in the Premier League, with our squad, there's a battling element that he's never been great at. Where I cut him some slack is that when he's played in a highly organised or structured set-up he's done fairly well. It's only under McClaren and Bruce that he's looked his worst because those aforementioned flaws were even more exposed by poor tacticians. That said, he's had some dire moments where the flaws in his character come to the surface and I think a lot of folk see him as a personification of the Ashley era - only motivated when it suited him, happy to bank his big money, lacking in ambition. I've been pleased with some of the noises coming out of him lately in regards to wanting to help start this new era on the front foot even if he won't be here for the big moments. I'm not keen to see him get a new deal, I'd rather wait until the summer for this stuff to be sorted, but if Howe believes this slow build project could benefit from him I'm happy to trust in that. I would be surprised if we stayed up and he started the first game of the season.

LRD
He's ok if he can keep up his current form. There will be a transition period where we will have to retain some of the players. Besides the owners have shown good sense in the length of the contracts given out to the new signings. No more 6 year nonsense.

He is the best passer in the team by a country mile which makes him stand out. He also possesses a goal threat and I love watching him strike the ball - it’s pure at times. As for the greatest frustration - being camped close to the centre backs especially late in games and not contributing to passing moves further up the pitch. For Watford at home in the last 10 mins he formed a back 5 as the 3rd CB - clearly against instructions. It was really poor. But I still like him enough to remain in the squad. He needs to come out for Bruno this weekend. Howe needs an alternative to 4-3-3 to play Shelvey, Bruno, J7 with Willock further forward.
