Has there been a recent (last 20 years) player that had left us and went on to better things? Hamman is the only one I could think of

Milner, Forster, Bellamy.

Dont think we can really include Forster and im not sure id agree about Bellamy

Does Distin count? Doubt there's a cat in hell's chance he'd have played top level football here until he was 37-38.

I would take him back in a heartbeat, but we would have the same issue as he has right now, we've got a Ritchie playing in the same position. What we really need is someone who actually wants to play on the left, Atsu and Aarons (if he can get and stay fit) are ideal.

 it's almost impossible to be wrong when you just maintain an anti-Pardew agenda like, he's great. Was so obvious how bad this transfer was though.

Decent player going through a purple patch, he'd have been very good this season with us but he was never going to continue that run of form, especially not under a faltering Alan Pardew.

Cabaye won a trophy.

Debuchy won a trophy.

Ba won a trophy.

Enrique won a trophy.

Carroll won a trophy.

All of these went on to better things and don't kid yourselves.

Jon Dahl Tomasson won the Champions League, UEFA Cup, Serie A, Eridivisie, Bronze Boot at 2002 World Cup and in team of the tournament for Euro 2004.
